Not everyone thought it was time for a The Real Housewives of Orange County cast shakeup.

RHOC star Emily Simpson didn’t expect Kelly Dodd, Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Elizabeth Lyn Vargas to be axed ahead of season 16 of the Bravo reality series. Even though Kelly was “expecting to be fired” for a quite a while due to her controversial comments, Emily exclusively told E! News that the June 15 announcement left her “shocked.” 

“I had no idea that they were going to make that many changes,” Emily told E! News exclusively on Tuesday, June 29 at the Veganic Nail Spa Grand Opening in Costa Mesa, Calif. “There are a lot of times where people or even Andy [Cohen] will say something like a reboot. First of all, I don’t even know what reboot means. Do you mean recast or reboot? So I really, honestly, didn’t think there would be that big of changes. I mean it was a shock, like shocking, shocking. I was shocked so many times in one day. I was traumatized.” 

Emily even joked “I didn’t think I was going to make it” when discussing the “cutthroat” recasting.

“It bothers me when fans become really critical of the last season because I feel like people aren’t understanding the obstacles that we had to deal with,” Emily explained. “I felt like it was a very odd season. It was short, but it was weird. We don’t normally film for two weeks and then shut down for six months and then have to self-film. That was bizarre…The fact that we even got 14 episodes and that you even got us on camera, it really was a huge feat.” 

Emily will even miss Kelly, who slammed former co-star Braunwyn on social media following the news of their dual firing. “Kelly and I got close over the last three years and we were really good friends, so it’s hard to see someone all the time in like a work situation and then that person isn’t there. That’ll be an adjustment,” Emily admitted.

However, the attorney is eager to film season 16 with new stars, including returning cast member Heather Dubrow. “I’m excited about meeting Heather because we have some mutual friends and the only thing I’ve heard about her were good things,” Emily gushed. “I’m excited about their being new girls because I really feel like we need some fresh Orange County faces that have fabulous lives, husbands and careers.”

She’s also looking forward to becoming closer to co-star Gina Kirschenheiter. “We have such a fun, solid friendship,” she beamed. “When we get together, we just have a good time.”

Shannon Beador is also returning for another season.

Emily is putting her new face forward after receiving a lower facelift (“I just have one chin now”) and an improved jawline.

“When I get all those comments from women that are like, ‘Oh my gosh. You didn’t need plastic surgery. You must have insecurity issues. You really need to work on your inside.’ It’s like, no, I don’t need to work on my inside,” Emily clapped back. “I need to work on my outside because I’m 45 years old, I gained 40 pounds, lost it, and now I have three chins and it bothers me so I did it for myself.”

Taraji P. Henson has some “big shoes to fill.”

The Oscar nominee is opening up about landing the iconic role of Miss Hannigan in NBC’s upcoming TV musical Annie Live!. The role of Miss Hannigan was first made famous on film by the legendary Carol Burnett in 1982’s Annie.

So, has Henson reached out to the comedy legend for advice on playing the hilariously awful orphanage villain?

“I have actually already sent her a letter because I love her so much,” the Empire star told E! News’ Nina Parker today on the June 25 episode of Daily Pop. “I grew up in the hood, but I watched Carol Burnett. I didn’t miss the show. I have big shoes to fill. I totally have the talent to make it my own but with so much respect for her.”

Henson also opened up about her role hosting the 2021 BET Awards this weekend and what the gig means to her.

“Black women have done so much in changing history,” Henson gushed. “I mean, Stacey Abrams, Kamala Harris, Beyoncé, the most awarded artist ever. And expect some major fashion moments from Henson. She added that her stylist has “got me squeezing in dresses already.”

Britney Spears is “hopeful” real change will take place following her candid testimony at the conservatorship hearing.

The pop star spoke to a superior court judge on Wednesday, June 23, and a source close to her exclusively tells E! News, “Britney is very happy and relieved that she was finally able to get so much off her chest and be heard… She was very excited to have her truth be out and not feel like she has to hide it anymore.”

“She feels it went well and is hopeful there will be a change,” the insider continues, adding the 39-year-old mother of two “has support from her mom who is trying to help her.”

The source shares Britney is waiting on her attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, to file paperwork requesting the conservatorship’s termination. In the meantime, Britney is looking into conservatorships as “she only recently gained access to be able to do online research,” according to the insider.

“Now that this is over, she has left on vacation with Sam [Asghari],” the source continues. “She was looking forward to getting away for a while.”

The insider says Britney and Sam’s relationship is “good,” noting that the model and fitness enthusiast is a “supportive” boyfriend. 

As the “Womanizer” singer noted in her testimony, she wants to make their relationship the “real deal” but she stated, “I was told, right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby.”

The pop star also said, “I have an [IUD] inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant.”

The source reiterates her desire to potentially marry Sam, saying, “Britney would love to move the relationship forward, but it’s never been something they could actually make happen… The situation is complicated because of her restrictions.”

In her testimony, Britney accused her father of enjoying the alleged control he was able to exert over her life. “The control he had over someone as powerful as me, as he loved the control to hurt his own daughter 100,000 percent. He loved it,” she testified, according to a transcript of her statement published by Variety. “I packed my bags and went to that place. I worked seven days a week, no days off, which in California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking.”

She also claimed she wasn’t allowed to “see my kids or my boyfriend.”

Jamie’s attorney, Vivian Lee Thoreen, issued a statement on his behalf following Britney’s impassioned speech. “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain,” the statement read. “Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.”

The model is so happy with the Phoenix Suns player, a source close to the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star told E! News, and “they are crazy about each other.” 

“She feels very secure and confident in their relationship,” the insider continued. “She didn’t expect this, but it’s become the healthiest and best relationship she has ever been in. She definitely feels like this is different and more serious.”

And it looks like Kendall’s family members are fans of Devin, too. “Her family loves him and knows how good they are for one another,” the source added. “They love having Devin around and have welcomed him with open arms. They love seeing Kendall so happy with someone who brings out the best in her. It’s exciting for everyone to see her in such a great relationship.”

In fact, a source told E! News in April that “this is the happiest Kendall has been in a relationship.”

“Devin is quiet and not interested in being in the spotlight or a celebrity. She really appreciates that about him and is attracted to that. They are really similar and love just being low-key and staying in and laughing together,” the insider said, later adding, “They are a solid couple with no drama. It’s been all positive and Kendall loves being with him.”

It’s been less than a year since Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik welcomed their daughter Khai. But the new parents already have a clear vision for how they want to raise their firstborn, including teaching her about their heritages.

“We think about it and talk about it a lot as partners and it’s something that’s really important to us, but it’s also something that we first experienced ourselves,” the supermodel told i-D for The New Worldwi-De Issue. “Because both of our parents are their own heritage. We are that first generation of those mixed races, and then that comes with that first generational experience of being like, ‘Oh damn, I’m the bridge!’ That’s not something that my parents experienced or that they can really help me through. It’s something I’ve always thought about my whole life.” 

Gigi’s father, Mohamed Hadid, is Palestinian, and her mother, Yolanda Hadid is Dutch. Zayn’s father, Yaser Malik, is British-Pakistani, and the One Direction alum’s mother, Trisha Malik, is English and of Irish descent.

“In certain situations, I feel–or I’m made to feel–that I’m too white to stand up for part of my Arab heritage,” Gigi continued. “You go through life trying to figure out where you fit in racially. Is what I am, or what I have, enough to do what I feel is right? But then, also, is that taking advantage of the privilege of having the whiteness within me, right? Am I allowed to speak for this side of me, or is that speaking on something that I don’t experience enough to know?”

Ultimately, Gigi predicts Khai “will grow up feeling out the way that she can or wants to be a bridge for her different ethnicities.”

“But I think that it will be nice to be able to have those conversations, and see where she comes from [with] it, without us putting that onto her,” she continued. “What comes from her is what I’m most excited about, and being able to add to that or answer her questions, you know?”

Gigi has spoken about her heritage before, including after she covered Vogue Arabia in 2017. “When I shot the cover of Vogue Arabia, I wasn’t ‘Arab enough’ to be representing those girls, even though I’m half-Palestinian,” she said during a 2018 Reebok appearance in Sydney, per Yahoo!. “I’m as Palestinian as I am Dutch. Just because I have blonde hair, I still carry the value of my ancestors and I appreciate and respect that.” 

Gigi and Zayn welcomed Khai, whose name means “the chosen one” in Arabic, last September. And in a February interview with Vogue, the runway star shared how the grandparents’ nicknames reflect their backgrounds. According to the magazine, Khai will call Mohamed Jido and Yolanda Oma. Similarly, the little one will refer to Yaser as Abu and Trisha as Nini.

During her talk with Vogue, Gigi spoke about how she and Zayn also plan to teach Khai about different religions.

“My dad’s Muslim, and my mom grew up celebrating Christmas,” she shared. “I felt like I was allowed to learn about every religion when I was a kid. I think it’s good to take different pieces of different religions that you connect with, and I think that’s how we’ll do that.”

One big happy family?

In an exclusive sneak peak at tomorrow’s all-new Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kourtney Kardashian drops a bombshell about whether or not she considers getting back together with ex Scott Disick in the future.

The exes share three children together: Mason, 11, Penelope, 8 and Reign, 6. While Kourtney and Scott are currently dating other people—Scott is linked to model Amelia Hamlin, and Kourtney has found love with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker—both Scott and Kourt were single at the time of filming the KUWTK episode, airing June 3. 

In the preview, Kourtney and mom Kris Jenner flip through old photo albums. Kris finds a snapshot of a “prom-style” pic with Kourt and Scott posing together, which Kourtney immediately coos over. 

“Listen, there’s nothing that I would love more than to see you live your life and grow old with someone and be happy, content and peaceful,” Kris starts a deeper conversation. “It would obviously be so fabulous if it was the dad of your children, you know?”

Kourtney seems to sarcastically shrug off the implication. “Wouldn’t that be a dream,” she replies about Scott. 

Kris continues to gush over Scott’s presence within the Kardashian-Jenner family. “I think he fits well with all of us because we’ve all been around each other for so long,” Kris adds. “I think at this stage, from what he tells me, he would love for it to be you and him.” 

“He’s a talker,” Kourt claps back.

In a confessional, Kourtney reveals that she is over her family butting in about her relationship with Scott. “My whole family, for a couple years now, love to just bring up me and Scott getting back together,” she sighs. “It’s frustrating because Scott and I have had our own private talks but sometimes I just don’t care to have it be such a conversation all the time, so I’ll just brush it off in a nice way.” 

Kourtney tells Kris that both she and Scott just “need more time” being separate from one another and single before fully committing to one another.

“And you’re not under pressure?” Kris asks. “No, I’m good,” Kourt replies.

“I’ve had a truly incredible run as host of The Bachelor franchise and now I’m excited to start a new chapter,” Chris wrote, adding, “I’m so grateful to Bachelor Nation for all of the memories we’ve made together. While my two-decade journey is wrapping up, the friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime.” 

After he defended contestant Rachael Kirkconnell‘s controversial photos in February, he stepped aside from hosting Matt James‘ After the Final Rose special and, more recently, from hosting The Bachelorette this season.

Though his new social media post focuses on all the happy memories, a source close to Chris tells E! News how he really feels about his unceremonious exit.

Bachelor Nation Reacts to Chris Harrison Controversy

“Chris is saddened to leave The Bachelor franchise,” the source exclusively shares. “It was his whole life and identity for many years and he was hopeful he would continue his contract.”

The insider says he wanted to keep hosting in 2022 and “has been in tough negotiations for weeks.” However, according to the source, “Ultimately, the studio decided this was what’s best.”

Chris was optimistic that he would be forgiven in due time, the source reveals. “He knows he made a mistake but was hopeful forgiveness would be granted.” 

He apologized one day after he defended Rachael’s pictures from a 2018 Old South party. Three days later, he issued another apology when temporarily stepping down from his role as host, writing on Feb. 13, “Now, just as I taught my children to stand up, and to own their actions, I will do the same. By excusing historical racism, I defended it.”

Throughout the turmoil, Chris “had an idea that his end was coming,” the source explains. “[Chris] had a feeling months ago and really came to terms with it.” 

He has no plans to return to hosting at the moment, according to the insider, who adds, “He is grateful for the conclusion and payout… He wants to focus on other business ventures.”

Several familiar faces commented on Chris’ goodbye post to wish him well. Arie Luyendyk wrote, “Love you brotha. On to bigger and better things,” while Colton Underwood said, “Love you Chris. Thank you for your friendship.”

Chris was replaced by Bachelorette veterans Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe as hosts for Katie Thurston‘s Bachelorette season, which kicked off on June 7. And David Spade will reportedly step in as the host of Bachelor in Paradise this summer.

As for Matt, he appears to have forgiven Rachael in the months following the scandal. The pair reconciled and were recently spotted on a couples’ retreat in the Hamptons. “Matt and Rachael are in a really good place right now and are getting serious. They are inseparable and talk all day, every day,” another source close to Matt exclusively told E! News last month.

On the June 3 episode of E! News’ Daily Pop, the Overserved host revealed where she stands regarding a return to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. As E! News readers well know, Vanderpump departed the hit docuseries after season nine and a fallout with castmate Kyle Richards.

While the series has moved forward with fabulous new additions, like Crystal Kung Minkoff, many still hope for Vanderpump’s return to the franchise. However, during an exclusive chat with Lilliana Vazquez this morning, the Vanderpump Rules star didn’t seem too keen about rejoining RHOBH.

“I don’t know,” Vanderpump commented. “I’ve got so much. I’ve got four shows going on.”

It probably doesn’t help that Vanderpump has yet to rekindle her friendship with Richards. On where they stand today, the restaurateur turned reality TV queen teased she only wants one thing from Richards.

For now, Vanderpump is focusing on her other TV projects, which includes Peacock‘s Vanderpump Dogs. The new series, which premieres Wednesday, June 9 on the NBCUniversal streaming service, follows the goings-on of Vanderpump’s rescue center.

“To do this Peacock show, you know, which is all about my passion of dogs and rescue and it was just beautiful to do,” she noted. “It’s sad in some cases, when you see little guys brought up, owner surrenders or hit by a car or amputations, things like that, but ultimately, finding them their happy home is the best thing ever.”

Put Stephen “tWitch” Boss firmly in the don’t-cry-because-it’s-over-smile-because-it-happened camp. 

Because while daytime TV (and dance!) enthusiasts are mourning the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the series’ co-executive producer and in-house DJ, uh, kinda saw it coming. Host Ellen DeGeneres “had announced it three years ago that she signed on for three more years,” he explained to E! News in an exclusive interview. “So I felt that she was going to stay true to that. It actually didn’t come as a surprise because she had already said it, you know?” 

Having a front row seat for the past seven years to the demands of helming your own daytime talk show did little to convince the So You Think You Can Dance alum that Ellen would be inking a new contract. “She’s been working really, really, really hard,” tWitch noted. “So there wasn’t something that was in me that was like, ‘Oh, she’s definitely going to renew again.'”

These Are the Stars Who Could Fill Ellen DeGeneres’ Shoes

That idea hadn’t really occurred to the comedian either. 

Though she revealed on the May 13 episode of her eponymous series that she “had thought a lot about this decision,” meditating about it and talking it over with wife Portia De Rossi, “Two years ago, I signed a deal for three more years,” she explained, “and I always knew in my heart that season 19 would be my last.”

For tWitch, listening to his longtime colleague explain her reasons for moving on (and disabusing fans of any notion that her decision stemmed from last year’s allegations of a toxic work environment) was pretty inspiring. 

“I was really proud of her, actually,” he shared. “Because I know that she’s been at it for 18-plus years now. And it’s not easy.” In that time, he continued, “We’ve employed thousands and thousands and thousands of people, changed a lot of lives, but that’s something to do that same thing every single day. And I’m proud of her that she’s kind of put an earmark on the closing of a saga to begin her next chapter. Because that’s huge and monumental in itself.”

That being said, all the pride and understanding in the world isn’t going to stop him from ugly crying when they sign off for good next spring. “I know that the emotions are going to be very overwhelming as we continue to kind of inch away to that last day of filming,” he admitted. “But, for me, I’m just trying to enjoy it as much as I possibly can because it’s been such a huge blessing.”

And tWitch, who’s also hosted two seasons of Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings with wife Allison Holker, fully intends to help Ellen follow through on her promise to make every day of the last season a celebration. “There’s so much gratitude and thanks wrapped around the idea of next year,” he explained, “because if you listen to Ellen talk about it, she wanted to do the show because she also wanted to continue to help people as much as she possibly can and put laughs and love and light out. And she’s done that.”

Now, he’s stoked envisioning the sort of anything goes opportunities that a final season presents. 

“Even just thinking one more year, it’s like, man, this is going to be our farewell season so I know we’re going to continue everything we’ve been doing but it’s going to be bumped up a notch,” he shared. “And just the idea of the help and the love and the laughs that have come from the show and then you put the notion of, ‘We’re going to go out with a bang,’ on top of that? Like that’s really exciting.”

Drop ins from Ellen’s most famous friends are all but assured as are the “trips down memory lane” she’s promised. 

“We get to say hello and goodbye to some of the guests that we’ve helped over the years. We get to check back in with people,” tWitch detailed. “There’s something poetic about that. And I think, also, that we as humans, do really well with beginnings and endings. You know what I’m saying? When we have a heads up an ending is coming, there’s something that is really inspiring about it.”

And should Ellen’s departure make room for a perpetually cheerful new host with an affable personality and his own sweet dance moves, well, he wouldn’t be mad at it.
