News details continue to emerge about Britney Spears‘ ongoing fight to end her 13-year conservatorship.

On Saturday, July 3, The New Yorker reported that the pop star allegedly called 911 the night before her court hearing, in which she gave a bombshell testimony on Wednesday, June 23.

According to the article, which was written by Ronan Farrow and Jia Tolentino, a person close to Britney, as well as law enforcement in Ventura County, Calif., told the outlet that the musician “called 911 to report herself as a victim of conservatorship abuse.”

Moreover, People confirmed the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department was called before Britney’s hearing, stating that police records show authorities “arrived at her home per her request.”

The New Yorker noted that while California typically allows the public to access emergency calls, the county sealed the records of Britney’s message because it’s an ongoing investigation. Following the singer’s alleged call, the outlet reported that her team began “texting one another frantically,” stating, “They were worried about what Spears might say the next day, and they discussed how to prepare in the event that she went rogue.”

E! News has reached out to Britney and her father Jamie Spears‘ attorneys for comment.

The 39-year-old star addressed a Los Angeles judge on June 29—that E! News was present for—testifying, “They’ve done a good job at exploiting my life. So, I feel like it should be an open court hearing and they should listen to what I have to say.”

“I haven’t done anything in the world to deserve this treatment,” she continued. “It’s not OK to force me to do anything I don’t want to do.”

The “Lucky” singer asked the judge to terminate her conservatorship after saying she’s felt “enslaved” by her father and conservator.

“Nothing has been done to this generation for doing wrong things, but my precious body, who has worked for my dad for the past f–king 13 years, trying to be so good and pretty, so good,” Britney testified. “I’m told the state of California allowed my ignorant father to take his own daughter—who only has a role with me if I work with him—they sat back and allowed him to do that to me? That’s given these people I’ve worked for way too much control.”

She later said that she’s been “traumatized” by her father and described how it’s impacted her mental health.

“I’ve lied and told the whole world ‘I’m okay. And I’m happy.’ It’s a lie,” she told the judge. “I thought just maybe I said that enough. Because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized. You know, fake it till you make it. But now I’m telling you the truth. Okay? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. It’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

Following Britney’s remarks, Jamie’s attorney issued a statement on his behalf, stating, “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.”

    Instagram

In March, Jamie’s attorney, Vivian Thoreen, told NBC News, “Britney being safe and not being taken advantage of is his number one priority.”

Vivian echoed similar sentiments when speaking to CNN that same month, stating Jamie “would love nothing more than to see Britney not need a conservatorship…Like any parent, he doesn’t always see eye-to-eye on what Britney may want. But Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest.”

On June 30, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied a request from Britney’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III, to remove Jamie as her co-conservator, per the court order obtained by E! News. Moreover, Jamie petitioned the court on June 29 to investigate the accusations Britney made in her testimony.

“Given the nature of the allegations and claims, it is critical that the Court confirm whether or not Ms. Spears’s testimony was accurate in order to determine what corrective actions, if any, need to be taken,” Jamie’s filing states, which was obtained by E! News. “It is also imperative for the proper functioning of conservatorship proceedings before this Court that all parties be provided a full and fair opportunity to respond to allegations and claims asserted against them, including by way of an evidentiary hearing.”

At this time, Jamie controls his daughter’s estate and has the authority to approve all of her expenditures. Back in 2008, Britney’s father was appointed as her co-conservator, along with Andrew M. Wallet. Andrew resigned in 2019. In November 2020, a judge decided that Bessemer Trust Co.—a wealth management group—would serve as a co-conservator alongside Jamie.

On July 1, the Bessemer Trust Co. requested a judge remove it from its role as co-conservator “due to changed circumstances” after Britney “claimed irreparable harm to her interests” in the court hearing.

  • After breaking her silence about Britney Spears' conservatorship testimony, the singer's sister Jamie Lynn Spears says she and her children have received death threats.

Jamie Lynn Spears has signaled that she and her children received death threats, days after she broke her silence about her sister Britney Spears‘s plea in court to end what the singer called her “abusive” 13-year conservatorship” and amid renewed criticism of the pop star’s family.

In a statement made to a judge last week by phone, Britney, 39, slammed their father Jamie Spears, the co-conservator of her finances who also oversaw her personal and medical care for the first 11 years of her conservatorship, and others involved in her life, including her family. She did not name her sister, who spoke out in support of Britney and her court battle days after her testimony amid criticism from fans. In an Instagram Story post shared on Friday, July 2, Jamie Lynn said some supporters took their anger too far.

“Hi, I respect that everyone has the right to express themselves, but can we please stop with the death threats, especially the death threats to children. -JLS,” read the statement by the Zoey 101 alum, a mother of two daughters.

Britney was first placed under a court-mandated conservatorship in 2008, months following a psychiatric hospitalization. In her testimony, the “Toxic” singer, who has undergone therapy for years, said she wanted the conservatorship to end without her having to undergo an evaluation by a mental health professional.

“I’ve done a lot of research and there’s a lot of judges who are in conservatorship for people without them having to be evaluated all the time,” the star said in her testimony. “The only time they don’t is that the conservator’s family member says something’s wrong with in person and considered otherwise. And considering my family has adopted my conservatorship for 13 years, I won’t be surprised if one of them has something to say, go forward and say, ‘We don’t think this should be asked to help her.’ Especially if I get my fair serve and trying to get something like they did to me.”

After Britney spoke, her father’s attorney said in a statement, “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.” In March, Jamie’s lawyer told CNN that “Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest.” Earlier this week, Britney’s father petitioned the court to investigate the claims the pop star made in her testimony.

Many of Britney’s fans have accused Jamie Lynn and other members of their family of taking advantage of the singer’s success, ignoring or enabling her alleged mistreatment and not speaking out more in support of her or endorsing their #FreeBritney campaign. Following the star’s testimony, which marked her first public comments about her court battle to end her conservatorship, Jamie-Lynn came under renewed criticism for not immediately making a statement to back up her sister. She broke her silence five days later.

“The only reason I hadn’t before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do,” Jamie Lynn said in an Instagram video posted on Monday, June 28. “But now that she’s very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say.”

She continued, “I think it is extremely clear since the day I was born, I’ve only loved, adored, and supported my sister. I mean this is my freaking big sister, before any of this bulls–t. I don’t care if she wants to run away to a rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has done so many times before, because I have nothing to gain or lose either way. This situation does not affect me either way because I’m only her sister who’s only concerned about her happiness.”

The country star added that she “made a very conscience choice” to only participate in Britney’s life as her sister and aunt to the singer’s two sons, Sean Preston Federline, 15, and Jayden James Federline, 14.

“Maybe I didn’t support the way the public may have liked me to, with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you I have supported my sister long before there was a hashtag and I’ll support her long after,” Jamie said “I mean I’ve worked since I was 9 and paid my own bills since I was 10 years old, not that I owe the public anything because my sister knows I love and support her and that’s the only person I owe anything to. I am not my family. I am my own person I am speaking for myself.”

Jamie Lynn continued, “I am so proud of her for using her voice, I am so proud of her for requesting new counsel like I told her to do many years ago. Oh, not on big public platform, but just in a personal conversation between two sisters. So, I am very proud she has taken that step. If ending the conservatorship or whatever hell else she wants to do to be happy. I support that 100 percent because I support my sister, I love my sister, always have and always will as long as she’s happy. So let’s keep praying. That’s all.”

In addition to Jamie Lynn, her husband Jamie Watson also spoke out about Britney’s testimony, telling The New York Post three days after the court hearing, “I can assure you her family loves her and wants the best for her. I wouldn’t be around people who weren’t. Who wouldn’t want to be in support of Britney?”

Christina Aguilera Slams "Devastating and Demeaning" Treatment of Britney Spears After Testimony

  • In a passionate Instagram statement, Christina Aguilera applauded Britney Spears for condemning the conservatorship she says has wrongly controlled her for more than a decade.
  • Watch: Britney Spears Feels “Hopeful” After Conservatorship Hearing

Christina Aguilera is in Britney Spears‘ corner.

In a statement posted to Instagram on June 28, the singer—who rose to fame alongside Britney first on the Mickey Mouse Club and then again as they became internationally-beloved pop stars in the early 2000s—addressed comments made during last week’s conservatorship hearing.

Christina applauded Britney for condemning the strict legal arrangement she says has wrongly controlled her for the past 13 years.

“These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through,” the “Candyman” performer wrote. “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”

Christina then acknowledged what it must feel like for Britney “to be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support” by those within her inner circle, describing it as “the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable.”

“The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly,” she continued. “Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness.”

Among the claims included in Britney’s shocking testimony was the revelation that she’s prohibited from removing an IUD, despite wanting to have a baby. Additionally, Britney likened the conservatorship to sex trafficking, going as far to say she’s being “enslaved” by her father and co-conservator, Jamie Spears

While Christina admitted she’s not privy to every detail of Britney’s case, she said she can empathize through their shared experience of fame.

Her statement continued, “The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control. To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life.”

“My heart goes out to Britney,” Christina concluded. “She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”

Christina joins a growing list of Britney’s former collaborators who have publicly supported her request to terminate the conservatorship. Justin Timberlake, who dated Britney from 1999 to 2002, called upon the artist’s family to right their alleged wrongs.

Britney’s younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, broke her silence on the matter earlier Monday. The former Zoey 101 star denied involvement in Britney’s legal turmoil, but said she supports her “100 percent.”

Following Britney’s testimony, an attorney read a statement in court on Jamie’s behalf, which read, “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.”

Jamie Lynn Spears is speaking out after Britney Spears‘ latest court hearing.

In a series of videos posted through Instagram Stories on June 28, the 30-year-old actress addressed her sister’s shocking testimony and plea to end her conservatorship after more than a decade.

“I just want to take a second to address a few things,” Jamie Lynn began. “The only reason I haven’t before is because I felt like until my sister is able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn’t my place or it wasn’t the right thing to do. Now that she has very clearly spoken and said what she needed, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say.”

The Zoey 101 star continued by saying she has “loved, adored and supported” Britney since the day she was born. And although she may not have been outspoken in the past, Jamie Lynn assured fans she was supportive of her older sister behind closed doors.

“I don’t care if she wants to run off to the rainforest and have a gazillion babies in the middle of nowhere or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has so many times before,” she explained. “I have nothing to gain or lose either way. Britney is the proud mom to Sean Preston, 15, and Jayden James, 14, with ex Kevin Federline.

Back on June 23, Britney spoke to a Los Angeles judge and requested that her conservatorship be terminated. In her statement, the Grammy winner alleged that she had been subjected to numerous psych evaluations, medications and that she was traumatized by her father, Jamie Spears, through his control. Jamie has served as a co-conservator of Britney’s estate since 2008.

After Britney spoke, an attorney shared a statement on behalf of Jamie. “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain,” the statement read. “Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.”

And in March, Jamie’s attorney told CNN, “Jamie is not suggesting that he is the perfect dad or that he would receive any ‘Father of the Year’ award. Like any parent, he doesn’t always see eye-to-eye on what Britney may want. But Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest.”

In her latest social media posts, Jamie Lynn tried to distance herself from her extended family proclaiming she was “my own person” who was “speaking for myself.”

“I am so proud of her for requesting new counsel like I told her to do many years ago. Oh, not on big public platform but just in a personal conversation between two sisters,” she shared. “So, I am very proud she has taken that step. I love my sister, always have and always will as long as she’s happy. So, let’s keep praying. That’s all.”

After the hearing, a judge praised Britney for her courage in speaking out, but said the music superstar needs to submit a petition to the court requesting the termination of the conservatorship before any next steps could be taken. No new dates were set.

Britney Spears' BrotherinLaw Jamie Watson Defends Her Family After Conservatorship Testimony

Britney Spears' BrotherinLaw Jamie Watson Defends Her Family After Conservatorship Testimony

  • Find out what Jamie Lynn Spears' husband Jamie Watson said about Britney Spears' family after the singer's public statement about her conservatorship.
  • Britney Spears‘ brother-in-law Jamie Watson, husband of Jamie Lynn Spears, is defending the sisters’ family while showing support for the singer after she spoke negatively about her 13-year conservatorship at a court hearing.

Britney’s comments on Wednesday, June 25, marked her first public statement about the arrangement since it was put in place in 2008 after she received psychiatric treatment. Her comments, made by phone, come amid her court battle to remove her and Jamie-Lynn’s father Jamie Spears as joint conservator of her financial and medical affairs.

“I can assure you her family loves her and wants the best for her,” Jamie Lynn’s husband told The New York Post on Friday, June 25. “I wouldn’t be around people who weren’t. Who wouldn’t want to be in support of Britney?”

At the hearing, the singer accused her dad of being controlling, called the conservatorship “abusive” and “stupid” and requested that it end without her being evaluated by a therapist.

Britney’s father responded to the singer’s comments at Wednesday’s court hearing through a statement read by his attorney, which said, “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.”

While Britney’s brother-in-law has commented on her statement, Jamie Lynn herself has not. However, last year, the Zoey 101 alum responded to a user who wanted her to comment about her sister’s mental health, “You have no right to assume anything about my sister, and I have NO right to speak about HER health and personal matters. She is a strong, badass, unstoppable woman, and that’s the only thing that is OBVIOUS.”

Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney Spears, Jamie WatsonGetty Images

At Wednesday’s court hearing, Britney said she wanted to be able to meet with a therapist once a week at most, and at her own home to maintain privacy. The singer has in the past undergone mental health treatment both at her house and at clinics. At the hearing, Britney also described what she said was a phone call with her father about a past treatment plan for her.

“‘I’m sorry, Brittany, you have to listen to your doctors. They are planning to send you to a small home in Beverly Hills to do a small rehab program that we’re going to make up for you. You’re going to pay $60,000 a month for this.’ I cried on the phone for an hour and he loved every minute of it,” she said. “The control he had over someone as powerful as me as he loved to control to hurt his own daughter and 100,000%. He loved it.”

She also said in her statement, “My precious body has worked for my dad for the past f–king 13 years, trying to be so good and pretty. So perfect because he works me so hard when I do everything I’m told.”

    Britney Spears, Jamie Spears InstagramInstagram

Britney also spoke during her testimony about the alleged restrictions on her personal life under conservatorship and made another accusation: She claimed she was prohibited from removing an intrauterine device for birth control that was placed in her body.

“I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” said the singer, a mother of two sons from a previous marriage and who is currently dating Sam Asghari. “I was told right now on the conservatorship. I’m not able to get married or have a baby. I have a [IUD] inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant. I wanted to take the [IUD] out so I could start trying to have another baby. But this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have any children, any more children.”

Britney added, “Basically, this conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I deserve to have a life.”

    Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

Meanwhile, an attorney for Britney and Jamie Lynn’s mom, Lynne Spears, said the 66-year-old matriarch, who is not a conservator, is a “very concerned mother” after hearing the singer speak to the court. The attorney, who was present during the hearing, also encouraged the judge to listen to Britney’s request to hire her own private lawyer and to change her care plan.

“I first want to say that was very courageous of Ms. Spears,” Lynne’s attorney said during the court proceedings. “One thing I want to raise with the court… is when she was there in May 2019 that she didn’t feel like she was heard. I feel we need to make sure today that she was heard.”

Back in July 2020, the Zoey 101 cast reunited for an All That sketch and spoke to E! News exclusively about Britney’s visits to the set while filming the Nickelodeon show.

“When Britney came to set, it was a big deal,” Sean Flynn, who acted as Chase Matthews, said. “We were like, ‘Ok, this is Britney Spears!’ Like, Jamie, you know, she was so big, especially at the time.”

Chris Massey, who played Michael Barret in the show, recalled a time when his little brother and Disney Channel star Kyle Massey was “shooting hoops” with Britney on set of the kids’ show.

“Britney, she’s just so chill and made us feel comfortable,” Paul remembered. “I never felt like there was any pressure that it’s Britney Spears, she’s just another human being like all of us. We all could respect that and she was so lovely to everybody, that it was easy.”

Jamie Lynn reminisced to that time as well, and how she felt so “comfortable” on set.

“It was very normal for me, like she would come visit me on set,” she recalled. “None of you ever made me feel uncomfortable in any way about it. Of course, we’re all Britney fans, but y’all never made me feel like I was any different than any of y’all who were working on the show.”

She described the pressures she felt growing up with an “iconic pop star” as her big sister.

“At times you feel like that’s all that people see,” she said. “When I came on set with them, I really felt like people were just treating me like another one of the kids on set. That was really special to me. Whether they were fans of Britney’s or not, they treated me just like a normal person and I really loved that.”

In her testimony, Britney said that she would like to sue her family, but did not specify who. Jamie Lynn has yet to respond to Britney’s statements in front of the judge.

Paris Hilton is offering her support to Britney Spears amid the star’s continued conservatorship battle.

While appearing at the Resort World’s grand opening on June 24, the 40-year-old star—who infamously became friends with the superstar singer in the early 2000s—gave a shout-out to the #FreeBritney movement while on the mic at the DJ booth and sent Britney her love. “We love you, Britney,” her voice echoed on the mic in the clip. “Free Britney!”

To punctuate her message, Paris then played Britney’s hit, “Piece of Me,” which prompted the crowd in attendance to cheer. Although Paris is not seen on camera in the video, the House of Wax star ‘liked’ a series of tweets mentioning her show of support.

Also noted in the ‘like’ section of Paris’ Twitter account are a whole host of tweets in support of her longtime pal, who mentioned Paris during her recent testimony. During her remote appearance in front of a judge on June 23, Britney said that she never discussed the more oppressive details of her conservatorship because she “didn’t think anyone would believe” her. She referenced Paris’ recent accusations of being abused while at a boarding school in Utah as an example.

“To be honest with you, the Paris Hilton story, on what they did to her [at] that school,” Britney said. “I didn’t believe any of it. I’m sorry, I’m an outsider and I’ll just be honest, I didn’t believe it.”

“And maybe I’m wrong and that’s why I didn’t want to say any of this to anybody, to the public,” she continued. “Because I thought people would make fun of me, or laugh at me, and say, ‘She’s lying, she’s got everything, she’s Britney Spears.’ I’m not lying.”

The tweets Paris ‘liked’ seemed to confirm that she did not take Britney’s statements personally. Among the missives earning a double-tap from the OG reality star: “Britney never said @ParisHilton was lying, she meant that she couldn’t believe what had happened to her. And because she couldn’t believe something so awful happened to Paris, she was scared to tell everyone what was happening to her because nobody would believe her.”

The latest display of support from Paris mirrors what she had to say about the singer last fall while speaking with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show in September. “I love her so much,” she shared. “And I feel if you’re an adult, you should be able to live your life and not be controlled.”
