Jamie Lynn Spears Pleads "Stop With the Death Threats" After Britney Spears' Court Testimony

Jamie Lynn Spears Pleads "Stop With the Death Threats" After Britney Spears' Court Testimony

  • After breaking her silence about Britney Spears' conservatorship testimony, the singer's sister Jamie Lynn Spears says she and her children have received death threats.

Jamie Lynn Spears has signaled that she and her children received death threats, days after she broke her silence about her sister Britney Spears‘s plea in court to end what the singer called her “abusive” 13-year conservatorship” and amid renewed criticism of the pop star’s family.

In a statement made to a judge last week by phone, Britney, 39, slammed their father Jamie Spears, the co-conservator of her finances who also oversaw her personal and medical care for the first 11 years of her conservatorship, and others involved in her life, including her family. She did not name her sister, who spoke out in support of Britney and her court battle days after her testimony amid criticism from fans. In an Instagram Story post shared on Friday, July 2, Jamie Lynn said some supporters took their anger too far.

“Hi, I respect that everyone has the right to express themselves, but can we please stop with the death threats, especially the death threats to children. -JLS,” read the statement by the Zoey 101 alum, a mother of two daughters.

Britney was first placed under a court-mandated conservatorship in 2008, months following a psychiatric hospitalization. In her testimony, the “Toxic” singer, who has undergone therapy for years, said she wanted the conservatorship to end without her having to undergo an evaluation by a mental health professional.

“I’ve done a lot of research and there’s a lot of judges who are in conservatorship for people without them having to be evaluated all the time,” the star said in her testimony. “The only time they don’t is that the conservator’s family member says something’s wrong with in person and considered otherwise. And considering my family has adopted my conservatorship for 13 years, I won’t be surprised if one of them has something to say, go forward and say, ‘We don’t think this should be asked to help her.’ Especially if I get my fair serve and trying to get something like they did to me.”

After Britney spoke, her father’s attorney said in a statement, “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.” In March, Jamie’s lawyer told CNN that “Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest.” Earlier this week, Britney’s father petitioned the court to investigate the claims the pop star made in her testimony.

Many of Britney’s fans have accused Jamie Lynn and other members of their family of taking advantage of the singer’s success, ignoring or enabling her alleged mistreatment and not speaking out more in support of her or endorsing their #FreeBritney campaign. Following the star’s testimony, which marked her first public comments about her court battle to end her conservatorship, Jamie-Lynn came under renewed criticism for not immediately making a statement to back up her sister. She broke her silence five days later.

“The only reason I hadn’t before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do,” Jamie Lynn said in an Instagram video posted on Monday, June 28. “But now that she’s very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say.”

She continued, “I think it is extremely clear since the day I was born, I’ve only loved, adored, and supported my sister. I mean this is my freaking big sister, before any of this bulls–t. I don’t care if she wants to run away to a rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has done so many times before, because I have nothing to gain or lose either way. This situation does not affect me either way because I’m only her sister who’s only concerned about her happiness.”

The country star added that she “made a very conscience choice” to only participate in Britney’s life as her sister and aunt to the singer’s two sons, Sean Preston Federline, 15, and Jayden James Federline, 14.

“Maybe I didn’t support the way the public may have liked me to, with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you I have supported my sister long before there was a hashtag and I’ll support her long after,” Jamie said “I mean I’ve worked since I was 9 and paid my own bills since I was 10 years old, not that I owe the public anything because my sister knows I love and support her and that’s the only person I owe anything to. I am not my family. I am my own person I am speaking for myself.”

Jamie Lynn continued, “I am so proud of her for using her voice, I am so proud of her for requesting new counsel like I told her to do many years ago. Oh, not on big public platform, but just in a personal conversation between two sisters. So, I am very proud she has taken that step. If ending the conservatorship or whatever hell else she wants to do to be happy. I support that 100 percent because I support my sister, I love my sister, always have and always will as long as she’s happy. So let’s keep praying. That’s all.”

In addition to Jamie Lynn, her husband Jamie Watson also spoke out about Britney’s testimony, telling The New York Post three days after the court hearing, “I can assure you her family loves her and wants the best for her. I wouldn’t be around people who weren’t. Who wouldn’t want to be in support of Britney?”

MLB Pitcher Tyler Skaggs' Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Los Angeles Angels

MLB Pitcher Tyler Skaggs' Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Los Angeles Angels

  • In a statement to E! News, the Los Angeles Angels said the lawsuits are “entirely without merit and the allegations are baseless and irresponsible.”

Tyler Skaggs‘ family has filed a wrong death lawsuit against the Los Angeles Angels nearly two years after the MLB pitcher was found dead in a hotel room.

According to court documents obtained by E! News on June 29, the parents and wife of Tyler filed lawsuits in Texas and California accusing two former high-level employees and the baseball team of gross negligence and wrongful death.

“The tragedy of Tyler’s death was made worse by the revelation that it could have been avoided,” the Skaggs family claimed in court documents. “The Angels failed Tyler. And because of this failure, Tyler, who was on the brink of achieving certain and substantial success as a pitcher in MLB, had his life cut short.”

In a statement to E! News, Angels spokesperson Marie Garvey said the “lawsuits are entirely without merit and the allegations are baseless and irresponsible.”

“In 2019, Angels Baseball hired a former federal prosecutor to conduct an independent investigation to comprehensively understand the circumstances that led to Tyler’s tragic death,” the statement read. “The investigation confirmed that the Organization did not know that Tyler was using opioids, nor was anyone in management aware or informed of any employee providing opioids to any player.”

The statement concluded, “The Angels Organization strongly disagrees with the claims made by the Skaggs family and we will vigorously defend these lawsuits in court.”

On July 1, 2019, Tyler was found dead in his Texas hotel room at the age of 27. A toxicology report released by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office determined the Angels pitcher died after choking on his own vomit, which was caused by a lethal combination of opioids and alcohol.

Since his death, Tyler’s family established the Tyler Skaggs Foundation, which supports athletic programs and initiatives for children.

And back in October 2020, former Angels employee Eric Prescott King was indicted on two charges including distributing a controlled substance that resulted in Tyler’s death.

“[Eric] asks for everyone’s patience before forming judgment so that all sides can be heard and facts are brought to light in a straight-forward fashion and not skewed by innuendo or interpretation,” his attorney Michael Molfetta previously said in a statement to E! News adding that his client “is eager to respond and to have his opportunity to tell his side of the story.”

Eric is also listed as a defendant in the latest lawsuit filed by the Skaggs family. E! News has reached out to his attorney for comment and has not heard back.

According to the attorney representing Tyler’s family, the decision to file a lawsuit was not an easy one. “Nothing will ease the pain and heartache of losing their only child and, for Carli, her husband and soulmate,” Rusty Hardin said in a press release. “But they want to get to the bottom of the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s tragic, untimely and completely avoidable death, and to hold the individuals and entities–including the Angels–accountable for the actions that contributed to it.”

How Jeffrey Epstein's Death Changed Everything for Ghislaine Maxwell

How Jeffrey Epstein's Death Changed Everything for Ghislaine Maxwell

  • Peacock true crime documentary Epstein's Shadow: Ghislaine Maxwell dives deeper into the British socialite's alleged role in Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring. Watch an exclusive preview.
  • Watch: Jeffrey Epstein’s Confidante Ghislaine Maxwell Arrested

How did Jeffrey Epstein‘s death affect Ghislaine Maxwell?

Peacock documentary Epstein’s Shadow: Ghislaine Maxwell, out now on NBCU’s streaming service, reveals never-before-seen documents and new information regarding Maxwell’s alleged involvement in the “enticement of minors, sex trafficking of children and perjury,” per charges of her July 2020 arrest. (She pleaded not guilty to the six-count indictment against her in Epstein’s sexual abuse case.) Maxwell is currently in jail awaiting trial set to commence on July 12, 2021.

    She is currently awaiting trial

Maxwell, the daughter of late British media proprietor Robert Maxwell, was multimillionaire financier Epstein’s confidante; Epstein died in his jail cell while awaiting trial for federal sex trafficking charges in August 2019.

In a haunting, exclusive sneak peek at the documentary, Maxwell’s “Oxford contemporary” and writer Anna Pasternak points out the “many parallels” between Maxwell’s father and Epstein.

“Did [Robert] Maxwell jump off the back of the boat in the Canary Islands, or was he murdered? Did Epstein hang himself in a New York prison, or was he murdered?” Pasternak asks. “It’s actually quite creepy the similarities between them both. There’s something very sinister about both stories.”

    Craziest True Crime TV Moments

Commentators also suggest that Epstein’s death put “the fear of God” into Maxwell; regardless of whether or not she believed he was murdered, Maxwell was then the prime target for investigators.

“She has to be afraid because she’s, like, the next in line of succession,” one expert says. “It’s all sort of shifted to her.”

Others suggest that Maxwell “had to disappear” following Epstein’s death because of the Virginia Giuffre defamation case documents that were made public in May 2016. “That’s when this whole scheme unraveled,” a source explains. “It was large-scale sex trafficking, and her name was now associated with it.”

The investigative docu-series Epstein’s Shadow focuses on the “complicated and mysterious life” of Maxwell, per a press release. “Ghislaine Maxwell, who was once the heiress to the Maxwell fortune but whose life takes a sordid downturn when she meets Jeffrey Epstein, the serial sex offender,” the official statement reads. “This investigative series will reveal a complicated story of power, sex, and money, which leads to Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest awaiting trial in November 2021.”

Vanessa Bryant Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over Kobe Bryant Helicopter Crash

Vanessa Bryant Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over Kobe Bryant Helicopter Crash

  • Vanessa Bryant and her children have settled a lawsuit against the helicopter operator of the flight that killed Kobe Bryant in 2020. Successors of six of the other victims also agreed on the terms.
  • Kobe Bryant‘s family is closing one chapter in the aftermath of his fatal crash, by reaching a settlement agreement with the helicopter company that operated his flight.

His widow, Vanessa Bryant, and families of other victims agreed on a confidential settlement on Tuesday, June 22, according to the court notice obtained by E! News.

“Plaintiffs and Defendants jointly report that they have agreed to settle their claims,” reads the notice. “The material terms of the settlement and releases are known to the settling parties and include that the terms of the settlement are confidential.”

They are finalizing the settlement documents and will request that the California judge approve the agreement.

Defendants Island Express Helicopters and Island Express Holding Corp, along with the successor of pilot Ara Zobayan, all agreed to settle.

Last year, Vanessa sued them for the wrongful death of her husband Kobe, 41, and daughter Gianna, 13, after they were killed in a January 2020 helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif., along with seven other people. Her surviving children Natalia, 18, Bianka, 4, and Capri, 2, were also plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

In addition to Kobe, Gianna and Ara, the helicopter accident killed passengers Christina MauserAlyssa, John and Keri Altobelli; and Payton and Sarah Chester.

Successors John James AltobelliAlexis AltobelliChristopher Chester, Matthew Mauser and multiple minors were also listed as plaintiffs and agreed to the settlement arrangement, the terms of which were not disclosed.

Vanessa’s lawsuit accused the pilot of failing to properly monitor and assess the weather prior to takeoff, as well as failing to abort the flight when he knew of the cloudy conditions, among other allegations. At the time, she asked for unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

When the suit was filed, a spokesperson for Island Express Helicopters told E! News in a statement, “This was a tragic accident. We will have no comment on the pending litigation.”

E! News has reached out to Island Express helicopters and Vanessa’s rep for comment on the settlement.

Vanessa separately sued the L.A. County Sheriff and his department, including four L.A. County sheriff’s deputies that she accused of leaking photos of the crash site. In March 2021, she revealed their identities as Joey Cruz, Rafael Mejia, Michael Russell and Raul Versales. (E! News reached out to the individuals at the time, but didn’t hear back.)

That lawsuit alleges, “No fewer than eight sheriff’s deputies at the crash site, pulled out their personal cell phones and snapped photos of the dead children, parents and coaches. The deputies took these photos for their own personal gratification.”

The LASD released a statement last September about the legal proceedings, saying, “Shortly following this tragic crash, Sheriff Villanueva sponsored legislation which now makes it a crime for public safety personnel to take or share non-official pictures of this nature.” It went on, “As a result of the swift actions we took under extraordinary circumstances, no pictures made it into the public arena. We continue to offer our heartfelt sympathies for the victims and their families.”

Just two days ago, Vanessa marked the second Father’s Day gone without the basketball champion.

“To the best girl dad. Happy Father’s Day, Papi,” his wife of nearly 20 years wrote on Instagram. “We love you forever and always, always and forever. Love you always, Nani, Gigi, B.B, Koko and VB.”

  • President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden‘s dog Champ has died at age 13.

The U.S. leader and his wife announced the death of their pet, the eldest of their two, on Saturday, June 19.

“Our hearts are heavy today as we let you all know that our beloved German Shepherd, Champ, passed away peacefully at home,” the Bidens said in a statement. “He was our constant, cherished companion during the last 13 years and was adored by the entire Biden family.”

The statement continued, “Even as Champ’s strength waned in his last months, when we came into a room, he would immediately pull himself up, his tail always wagging, and nuzzle us for an ear scratch or a belly rub. Wherever we were, he wanted to be, and everything was instantly better when he was next to us. He loved nothing more than curling up at our feet in front of a fire at the end of the day, joining us as a comforting presence in meetings, or sunning himself in the White House garden.”

After being elected Vice President in the 2008 U.S. presidential election, the current U.S. leader acquired Champ from a Pennsylvania breeder when the dog was three months old, keeping a promise he made to Jill to get her a puppy if President Barack Obama won. Obama also made the same promise to his daughters and brought home their first dog, Bo, who died of cancer this past May at age 12.

The Bidens’ granddaughters named Champ, and the dog’s name also has sentimental significance for the president, who shared in his 2008 vice presidential campaign speeches how his father would tell him, “Any time you get knocked down, champ, get up!”

In their statement on Saturday, the Bidens recalled how in his younger days, Champ “was happiest chasing golf balls on the front lawn of the Naval Observatory or racing to catch our grandchildren as they ran around our backyard in Delaware.”

“In our most joyful moments and in our most grief-stricken days, he was there with us, sensitive to our every unspoken feeling and emotion,” they said. “We love our sweet, good boy and will miss him always.”

The Bidens also own a younger German Shepherd, Major, who they adopted as a puppy from the Delaware Humane Association in 2018. He is the first dog rescued from an animal shelter to live at the White House.

Following news of Champ’s death, the Bidens’ eldest grandchild, Naomi Biden, 26, posted on her Instagram page a photo of her grandparents’ two dogs playing in the snow on the White House lawn.

“Rest easy sweet Champ,” she wrote. “We love you forever, we’ll miss you for always.”

Tati Westbrook Returns to YouTube With Stunning Revelations on Her Marriage, Legal Drama & Death Threats

Tati Westbrook Returns to YouTube With Stunning Revelations on Her Marriage, Legal Drama & Death Threats

  • In a new video, Tati Westbrook opened up about the scandals, legal battles and marriage turmoil she experienced during her year-long break from YouTube's beauty community.
  • Watch: Scott Disick Defends Khloe Kardashian After IG User Asks Who She Is

YouTube’s OG beauty vlogger Tati Westbrook has returned to the spotlight after more than a year in the shadows.

The Tati Beauty co-founder uploaded her first video of 2021 on Thursday, June 17, announcing she’s back to using her channel after a “terrible time in my life.”

“Obviously, I was so super stressed out, but I’m going to stop right there. I don’t want to talk about it,” she said, alluding to her very public falling out with fellow YouTube stars James CharlesJeffree Star and Shane Dawson. “That past event seems to want to follow me everywhere I go.”

Out of transparency, however, Tati admitted she’s ready to explain what really transpired during her time away. “When I pulled back I stopped communication with everyone in the beauty community,” she shared. “I haven’t talked to anyone in over a year. I really took a break and I needed to for my peace of mind.”

Moreover, Tati stated she’s not involved in any legal battles with James, Jeffree or Shane. In her last video shared in June 2020, the vlogger accused Jeffree and Shane of “defamatory” actions and warned that she was “still well within the statute of limitations for bringing a civil action to seek recovery for my damages.”

Jeffree and Shane have not publicly responded to Tati’s comments.

Though Tati decided not to move forward with a lawsuit against them, she acknowledged acknowledged her and husband James Westbrook‘s other legal battles.

In the fall of last year, Tati began preparing for her comeback because she wanted to spend her life doing what made her happy. But then, what she described as “the unthinkable” happened, and she and James were sued by their Halo Beauty partner Clark Swanson

As E! News reported last October, Clark accused Tati and James of breach of contract, gross negligence and fraudulent inducement in connection to their vitamin line, Halo Beauty.

Tati Westbrook, 13th Annual Women In Film Female Oscar Nominees PartyRodin Eckenroth/FilmMagic

“This was just really mind-blowing to have happen,” she explained, adding the ongoing litigation is the reason she did not resume her makeup reviews earlier. “It was not a great environment for me to come back to… There was just no way.”

She further revealed she and James sold their home in Los Angeles, as well as her condo, and “downsized my life in a major way,” so they can afford to pay for their attorneys.

Though it was a difficult process, she said, “Material items are not the most important thing, my integrity is more important and I’ll leave it at that.”

In addition, Tati said as all this was going on, she began receiving “explicit and detailed” death threats. She claimed, “There were things that were happening that were so appalling. And when you feel violated of your privacy, like you’re being spied on and you’re blackmailed and there are people harassing you in this really graphic nature and there’s a barrage of detailed death threats—let me tell you, you lose sleep.”

“It just felt like my world was coming to a halt, so that’s what was going on in spring/summer of last year,” Tati shared, “but I really felt that if I pulled back and just took a time out, that I could regroup and stand strong and come back.”

The YouTuber admitted her mental health took a hit last year, sharing, “It came to a point where I almost, in a weird way, accepted—and this sounds really sad—but I was like, ‘Well, if it’s my time to die, then it’s my time to die. I can’t live in fear.'”

    photos
    YouTube’s Biggest Scandals

Then, in an effort to “take my power back” and share what’s going on so “no one can hold it over” her, Tati disclosed that she and James nearly split. She explained, “During this very, very stressful time in my life, James and I almost got divorced. We could not be around each other; he got his own place, we were separated during the holidays. It was a sad time.”

Now, they’re back together and she’s hoping to have her “happy ending,” after it truly reached the point where she had “no hope” of a future together.

“I for real thought I had lost everything,” Tati said. “I remember being alone and thinking, ‘This is it for me.'”

She also addressed the rumor that she left YouTube to become a mom, a dream the vlogger previously spoke about in her videos. Tati shared, “I would love that but that was not my journey over the last year.”

    Youtube

In her final message, Tati said people are allowed to have their “opinion” on her video, but asked tarot readers and psychics to “not be used in any way, shape or form in videos involving divination.”

“Please do not. This is an intense request from my heart, I’m not meaning to shame you but I’m tapped out, done, goodbye, not for me,” she explained. “It feels really violating to have someone read your future without your permission and speak words of death over your life… It only breeds negativity and anxiousness and it’s not something I’m involved in anymore.”

Numerous YouTubers and beauty vloggers celebrated Tati’s return to the platform after her extended break. Vlogger Manny MUA wrote on Twitter, “genuinely very very happy for Tati, so happy she is finding peace and moving forward.”
