Schitt's Creek Star Annie Murphy Recalls Being "Unable to Get Up" Amid Battle With Depression

Schitt's Creek Star Annie Murphy Recalls Being "Unable to Get Up" Amid Battle With Depression

  • In a new interview, Schitt's Creek actress Annie Murphy looks back at this past year and talks about her battle with depression.
  • For six seasons, Annie Murphy played Alexis Rose on Schitt’s Creek, bringing smiles to viewers’ faces with her character’s “Ew David” one-liners, celebrity-filled backstories, and self-described “T.Rex” arms.

Because fans often associate the actress with this role, they expect her to always be as bubbly as the daughter of the Rose family. But Annie isn’t Alexis, and she experiences real-life struggles just like everybody else.

In a new interview for The Zoe Report, Annie talks about mental health and her battle with depression last year.

As she told the outlet, she went through a difficult time during the Schitt’s Creek farewell tour in January 2020, turning to her co-star Noah Reid to help her put on a “brave face” for the audience and then returning home to cry.

She was scheduled to begin filming her new series Kevin Can F**k Himself in March. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, that was put on pause and she flew home to spend lockdown with her family.

“My mom was like, ‘You’re crying 12 times a day hysterically, to the point where your teeth are chattering,'” she recalled. “‘That’s not normal.'”

So, she started seeing a therapist, who diagnosed Annie with depression. “A lot of people are going to think that I sound like I’m playing a tiny violin for myself,” she told The Zoe Report. “‘Oh, you’re rich and famous. Why the f–k are you sad? You have nothing to be sad about.’ But I’m not going to post photos of me covered in my own snot, lying on the floor, unable to get up. I don’t want people to have to see that. [And] as excited as I was to get this huge part on [Kevin], I do not think if I had gone to work when I was supposed to go to work, I would have been able to do my job.”

Annie continued going to therapy and began taking antidepressants. “I do not cry every single day on the floor 12 times… I am able to focus on other things in my life,” she shared. “Now, honestly, if a friend’s like, ‘I’m having a really hard time,’ I’m like, ‘Get on drugs. Get on drugs!’ You don’t have to be on drugs for the whole time, but they truly, truly saved my life in the sense that I was not a functional human being and I was able to be a functional human being.”

And when she returned to take on the part of Allison last fall, she found herself diving deep into her work, making friends and enjoying the process. “Not to toot my own horn because I f–king hate that, but I do feel a sense of resilience,” Annie said, “both from Allison but also being in a real messy mental state going into it.”

Now, she’s ready for this next chapter. And while Annie will always have a place in her heart for Alexis, she’s ready for the world to see her new performance and continue doing what she loves on her terms.

“I don’t need to live up to people’s expectations,” she added. “If it was an indie film, if it was a piece of theater, if it was voice work, whatever that was, for whatever the paycheck was, I just really, really wanted to do something for myself that was a challenge and that I had fun with, that was about something important to me.”

  • Watch: Why Lil Nas X Is the King of Clapbacks

Lil Nas X is defending his BET Awards performance.

On Sunday, June 27, the 22-year-old singer set the stage ablaze at the ceremony, where he sang his hit song, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” While his performance received instant buzz due to the homage paid to Michael Jackson‘s iconic song, “Remember The Time,” it also received praise and notable attention due to the steamy kiss he shared with one of his male dancers.

The kiss drew audible cheers and a massive amount of applause from the audience and even earned the rapper a standing ovation—but, when one social media user criticized the “Old Town Road” musician for his production, Lil Nas X immediately fired back.

In response to a critic who tweeted at him, “DON’T USE AFRICAN CULTURE FOR S–TS LIKE THIS!!!! RESPECT OUR ANCESTORS,” the rapper wrote, “Y’all really like to pretend homosexuality didn’t exist in African culture.”

For his on-stage attire, the rapper dressed up as a pharaoh and donned gold matching knee-high boots.

While the performance drew some criticism, the “Rodeo” rapper also received an overwhelming amount of adoration from his fans on social media and even got a sweet shout-out from Diddy on Twitter. “Lil Nas X did that!!!” the 51-year-old rapper wrote. “Be fearless!!!”

A fan of the “Montero” musician echoed that same sentiment by tweeting, “LIL NAS X. LEGEND, ICON, HE IS THE MOMENT.” Another sang his praises by writing, “Ok, I love this man for this and ending Pride month out with a bang.”

And although Lil Nas X is not backing down from his haters, it’s safe to say his fans will talking about his latest show-stopping performance until the sun goes down.

Iggy Azalea Responds After Being Accused of Not Supporting Britney Spears Amid Conservatorship Battle

Iggy Azalea Responds After Being Accused of Not Supporting Britney Spears Amid Conservatorship Battle

  • "I am actually here to support someone in a way that's helpful and also mindful," Iggy Azalea explained after being accused of not speaking out against Britney Spears' conservatorship.
  • Iggy Azalea is reminding fans that she’s been in Britney Spears‘ corner long before the #FreeBritney movement.

On Friday, June 25, the 31-year-old rapper, who collaborated with the pop star in 2015, defended herself after she—along with several other artists who worked with Britney in the past—was accused of not supporting the 39-year-old singer amid her conservatorship battle.

But before Iggy joined in on the discussion, a fan pointed out, “One, Iggy did speak about it and yall dragged her for it so it’s weird now that y’all switched up. Secondly, Iggy has ALWAYS been a supporter of Britney so this was so unnecessary.”

“Right, I said her team wouldn’t let her do promo and that they went through my house etc and y’all said I was a hater,” Iggy responded, referring to their song “Pretty Girls,” which underperformed on the charts at the time, as well as referencing Britney’s team searching her property.

“Framing Britney Spears'” Most Disturbing Moments

For backstory: Following the release of their catchy tune, the “Sally Walker” rapper criticized the lack of marketing and promotion.

“its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc,” she wrote on Twitter at the time. “unfortunately I’m just featured…. would have enjoyed performing it alot, i think it got off to a powerful start. but you need content to compete in 2015.”

A year later, Iggy told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live about how the “Circus” singer’s entourage went through her house before they worked together.

“They came and checked my place to make sure I wasn’t trying to stash anything weird and, like, get it to her or something…to make sure I wasn’t a bad influence,” she shared in 2016. “And I’m not. I passed the test!”

According to the “Fancy” rapper, she signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement, which is why she hasn’t spoken out more about Britney’s 13-year conservatorship. However, the Australian native made it clear that she cares about the Grammy winner.

“I am actually here to support someone in a way that’s helpful and also mindful,” Iggy explained. “Britney has said in her own words, she’s embarrassed to even share this with the world. If she needed me to speak on her behalf, That message has been delivered to her. Other than that – I’m good.”

She continued, “I’ve done what I’m supposed to do, I’ve reached out. I’m not supposed to be mindlessly telling you all whatever was happening because half of these people are just here for entertainment not to help. I actually care & she can use me if she needs my voice. Leave me alone PLEASE.”

    Iggy Azalea, Britney Spears, TwitterTwitter

Earlier this week, Britney opened up about her situation, telling a Los Angeles judge, “I want to end the conservatorship without being evaluated.”

“I’ve lied and told the whole world ‘I’m OK. And I’m happy.’ It’s a lie,” she said on Wednesday, June 23. “I thought just maybe I said that enough. Because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized. You know, fake it till you make it. But now I’m telling you the truth. OK? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. It’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

Following Britney’s remarks, her father Jamie Spears responded to her testimony through his attorney.

“Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain,” the statement read. “Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her very much.”

Kaitlyn Bristowe Claps Back After Being Accused of Not Wearing Her Engagement Ring

  • Yes, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick's romance is still rosy. So when a follower thought the former Bachelorette wasn't wearing her engagement ring, Bristowe didn't waste any time clapping back.
  • Kaitlyn BristoweInstagram

Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick are doing just fine, thank you very much.

After reading a few concerned comments on Instagram, the former Bachelorette reassured fans their romance is still rosy.

It all started on June 23 when Bristowe headed to the airport and asked her followers to guess where she was going (spoiler alert: It was Hawaii). But some social media users seemed more interested in her relationship status than the destination.

“Hopefully somewhere with your fiancé?” one commenter wrote. “Miss seeing you two together.”

Posting a video of the couple dancing cheek to cheek in the Windy City, Bristowe then replied, “We were literally just in Chicago this weekend so where have you been sista?”

But the inquiries didn’t stop there. When a follower asked why she wasn’t wearing her five-carat oval-shaped diamond engagement ring, the reality star held up her finger with the bling and wrote, “I am ya Turkey.” Another then asked how she deals with all the “annoying” comments.

“One person just asked ‘did you and Jason break up because I heard he moved out and hasn’t been in Nashville until weeks,'” the Dancing With the Stars champ wrote. “Like, don’t they understand they sound like delusional dingalings?”

Bristowe and Tartick started dating in 2019 following her split from her former fiancé Shawn Booth in 2018. The season 11 lead and the former contestant from Becca Kufrin’s season then got engaged in May.

“Choosing your forever is the most important decision in the world, @kaitlynbristowe you made that decision so easy!” Tartick wrote on Instagram after the proposal. “Love you to death and forever.”

  • During the June 23 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika Jayne shared more details about what led her to divorce Tom Girardi.

Erika Jayne is getting real about her split from Tom Girardi

During the Wednesday, June 23 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the 49-year-old TV personality opened up to her co-stars about deciding to move on from her marriage of 21 years. The initial discussion came during a group meal at Sutton Stracke‘s party and followed conversations about the topic that first began in last week’s installment

“Let’s discuss the elephant in the room,” Erika said in the new episode. “So, my life drastically changed this week. I let go of my Lamborghini. I let go of my 16,000-square-foot home. I let go of my marriage. I let go of everything.”

The singer further explained to the camera that she made the difficult choice to leave the marriage because she had felt “pushed” out of the partnership.

“I literally made a decision that I had to,” she shared. “I left because he pushed me further and further out. The conversations that I used to have were now reduced down to a sentence or two. I just kept walking around that house, and knowing that this marriage was headed down a really s–tty path, I had to make a choice to do what was right for me. I couldn’t live that way anymore.”

She went on to inform her friends that she purposely hadn’t told them details about the split until now so as not to put them in a “bad position” legally as the divorce process plays out.

“I struggled for a long time knowing that I had to leave,” she explained in her confessional. “But once I made my decision, I spent a good 30 days closing out certain parts of my life. I cried every day. This was the end of a massive part of my life and stepping into, basically, a void.”

Erika added that she was “met with such resistance” from Tom when she tried to get them to talk things out. She also claimed that the differences in status, given that he is 33 years older and was wealthy when they first met, meant she “was always dismissed” if she were to bring up her hurt feelings.

The reality star shared that she intentionally filed for divorce on Nov. 3 because it was Election Day 2020 and she “wanted it to get buried” in the news cycle, but that media outlets nonetheless wrote about the news of her split.

Indeed, E! News was first to report the divorce, and the headline for our exclusive reporting was flashed onscreen during the episode. At the time, Erika released a statement saying in part that this was “not a step taken lightly or easily.”

After her statement was released, a source close to Erika told E! News that Tom’s alleged infidelity was the reason for the breakup. Tom’s team did not respond to E! News’ request for comment.

In addition, the attorney is currently facing legal issues after past clients accused him of fraud and embezzlement. Neither Tom nor Erika, who is also listed as a defendant in the suit, has yet to file responses to these complaints.

Bachelor in Paradise‘s Carly Waddell is opening up about her recent health scare.

The reality TV personality took to Instagram to detail the events that led her to being transported to the hospital by an ambulance last week. Although Carly explained that she’s still unsure what caused her medical emergency, she discussed the pain she was experiencing ahead of her flight.

“I know you guys are wondering what happened to me on Monday (June 14),” she began her 15-minute clip. “I was waiting in line for the plane [and] started having some really bad intestinal cramps. And when I say really bad, they were what I would compare to contractions. They were unbelievably bad.”

When describing the cramps, the ABC star explained that they “kept hitting and kept hitting and I couldn’t breathe.”

The pain was so intense that she “got super, super hot and super, super nauseous and I stopped being able to see and I stopped being able to hear.”

Just as the plane was about to take off, The Bachelor alum revealed that she got up from her seat and ended up passing out. However, she was caught by a passenger before hitting the ground and soon after regained consciousness.

Following the incident, Carly said the fire department arrived and transported her out of the airport in a wheelchair since she was unsure she could walk. At first, she said they asked if she was able to be taken home, but after checking her vitals, they noticed her blood pressure was “way too low.”

Because her blood pressure continued to decrease, Carly explained that she was rushed to the hospital. According to her, it was in that moment that she had to fight to stay alive.

“I could tell my body was giving out,” the Bachelor Nation star shared. “And I had to talk myself…’This is not the way you go out.’ I was laying there with my eyes closed and pep-talking myself into staying alive.”

It’s been nearly a week since she was hospitalized. However, Carly revealed that doctors still haven’t given her a precise answer as to what happened.

“They basically still don’t know what was going on,” she explained. “They said it was probably a virus or bacteria that just got me and got me really good. Ever since that day, I’m still having really bad intestinal cramps but they’re not like they were. But they’re not great. And randomly getting nauseous.”

On Monday, June 14, Carly’s ex, Evan Bass, was the first to announce that she had been hospitalized.

“Carly’s first ambulance ride – she’s gonna be ok and, my goodness, this brings back some memories,” Evan captioned his post at the time, alongside a photo of Carly lying in the hospital bed. “Thanks for all the prayers and support. After 9 hours we left the hospital but she’s still in pretty rough shape and may have to go back. Continued thoughts and prayers are so appreciated. And she knows she’s beloved.”

He later added, “I know y’all wanna know what’s going on but it’s her health and story to tell if she wants to share. (I did get her permission to share photo from earlier so you can relax Jan from Wisconsin.) In all the madness, she lost her phone and really needs to rest so it might be a bit.”

In her Instagram video, Carly expressed how thankful she was Evan was by her side the whole time.

The exes, who split in December 2020, share two children together.

Virgin River Season 3 Trailer Reveals Jack's Fate After Being Shot

Virgin River Season 3 Trailer Reveals Jack's Fate After Being Shot

  • The new trailer for season three of Virgin River is simply packed with reasons to be excited to have this show back July 9 on Netflix.
  • Watch: “Law & Order” & More TV Shows We’re Excited for in 2021

Virgin River is back and as dramatic as ever.

Netflix released a new trailer for season three, which arrives in July, and it’s exactly the kind of absurdity we need right now. With the shooting of Jack (Martin Henderson)—the shocking cliffhanger from season two—over in about two seconds, he and Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) are (kinda maybe) arguing over whether or not to start a family while a million other things are also happening. Jack’s house is on fire! Jack is crying! Jack is beating up the guy who might have shot him! Jack is shocked that his baby mama has a new man! Doc (Tim Matheson) is going blind!

It is, as Virgin River always is, a roller coaster, but we wouldn’t want it any other way with our favorite, absolutely bonkers comfort show. Season two was released in November, during a particularly bad time in the pandemic, and it made our winter both a little less dark and a lot more entertaining as we spent several days yelling at the screen. The citizens of Virgin River do a lot of really dumb things!

In case you’ve also (purposely) forgotten everything that happened in 2020, here’s a rundown of where everyone was when we last left them.

Mel and Jack: After finally admitting they love each other, Mel and Jack are officially together. The problem is that in the final moments of season two, Mel found Jack bleeding on the floor in the bar. We can only assume the shooting has something to do with his old pal Brady and the growers, but that’s sure to be one of the big mysteries of season three.

Doc and Hope: Virgin River’s most unreasonable couple (which is saying something) renewed their vows and are seemingly happy, except for a bit of important medical news that Doc hasn’t yet had time to tell Hope. According to the trailer, he’s going blind, which is bad news for a doctor! We’re just going to guess that Hope is totally going to freak out, as she does about everything.

    Virgin River Netflix

Preacher: Preacher (Colin Lawrence) was ready to move to San Francisco for a new job, until Christopher (Chase Petriw) showed up at his door and asked to stay with him while Paige (Lexa Doig) stays in hiding after accidentally killing her abusive ex. Oh, the anxiety this storyline gives us!

Ricky and Lizzie: Ricky (Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey) and Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) continued to hook up despite Connie (Nicola Cavendish) doing everything in her power to control her trouble-making niece. Everyone is irritating in this storyline so we’re not sure if we’re on the side of Connie or the teens.

Charmaine: Jack’s ex/baby mama (Lauren Hammersley) was real offended when Jack rejected her once again, so now she doesn’t even want him to be in the kids’ lives. She’s got a new man in the trailer and we will continue to hope that eventually it will be discovered that the babies aren’t Jack’s after all, so we can be free of her forever.

We promise we love this show! It’s a complicated relationship!

You can watch the trailer below.

Season three of Virgin River premieres July 9 on Netflix.

  • In a video on her Instagram Story, Dua Lipa shared how being bullied for her dancing online only fueled her to keep it up.
  • Watch: Dua Lipa Gets Rushed by a Fan in Mexico

Dua Lipa “DGAF” what you think about her dancing—the negativity only inspired her to work even harder.

The “Levitating” artist took to her Instagram Story earlier this week to celebrate the anniversary of her first album, the self-titled Dua Lipa—and tell the haters how much they’ve inspired her in the process.

Dua, who sported pajamas while she relaxed in bed, said with a laugh in the since-removed Instagram Story, “It’s been four years since my debut album has been out, and I’m so grateful for all the incredible opportunities, the amazing people I met, all the incredible lessons that I learnt, touring for like three years, getting bullied online which made me want to dance my arse off and just really get better, so thank you so much.”

The 25-year-old Brit continued, “For all things good and bad, for helping me grow. I’m forever grateful and I’m excited for you guys to see what we’ve got coming up next.”

Fans may recall that not everyone was impressed with the “New Rules” singer’s dance moves. In 2018, a video of Dua performing her and Calvin Harris‘ track “One Kiss” went viral, with fans pointing out that it featured some pretty lackluster choreography. She told Attitude last November of how the online teasing affected her, “There were so many things, especially when you start out, like a video of me dancing and they’re like, ‘Ah well, she has no stage presence.’ But they’d never been to one of my shows, they’d never seen me perform.”

Since then, however, Dua has really wowed critics with her moves. Just one year after the dancing video went viral, she was met with much critical acclaim for her killer performance at the 2019 EMAs.

In March, Dua proved she really could add triple threat to her resume thanks to her performance with DaBaby at the 2021 Grammys, where she pulled out all the stops in terms of choreography.

And that’s how you clap back at the haters.
