The doctors on Scrubs may’ve been fictional, but the actors who portrayed these healthcare workers have a real appreciation for first responders.

In this sneak peek from the Thursday, July 1 episode of Reunion Road Trip, the cast of Scrubs—including Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes and Robert Maschio—reflect on their show and pay tribute to the essential workers working amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Scrubs was, obviously, a sitcom with a lot of comedy, but it had a lot of serious moments,” Zach starts off. “You know, you can’t make a show about losing life and hospitals without it getting into drama and real-life situations.”

In a confessional with Donald, the Garden State director credits the writing team for creating a show that can “make you laugh, have some bit of surreal fantasy and then, very often, be moving.”

Per Donald, a lot of medical workers have resonated with the series, adding, “They give us the best compliments on how Scrubs was the most accurate medical show on television.”

For Sarah, she says the show provided some insight into the everyday lives of doctors. “And I’ve always been in awe of them,” she shares, “but never more than right now with what’s going on in the world.”

To the Reunion Road Trip camera, the Rick and Morty star calls doctors “heroes,” especially now that they’re “putting their lives at risk every day to save all of us.”

However, it’s not just the doctors they’re grateful for as Donald reminds his co-stars that it’s “the nurses that run everything.” Expressing a similar sentiment, Judy adds, “I was proud to play a nurse on TV. I’m grateful for essential workers, and I’m grateful for what they do.”

As the clip comes to an end, Zach reveals he has “so much more respect” for essential workers amid “these crazy times.”

He concludes, “I think now more than ever, we look at them as heroes. We did as we were making the show, ‘cause we thought that they were cool. But now more than ever, I think we really, really admire and look up to these men and women.”

Ellen Pompeo Has a Mini Grey's Anatomy Reunion With 2 Fan Favorites

  • Ellen Pompeo took to Instagram to give fans a look at her reunion with two of her former cast members on Grey's Anatomy.

Gone, but not forgotten! Ellen Pompeo is still hanging out with two of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital’s most beloved doctors.

On June 11, the Grey’s Anatomy star took to her Instagram Story to share a video of her new dinner companions, Eric Dane and Justin Chambers. In the video, Eric and Ellen pose for a pic as Justin—who is sporting a bleached-blonde hairstyle these days—comes up behind them and pretends to be their waiter. “What would you like for dinner?” he asks, as Ellen laughs.

As fans will recall, Eric portrayed Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy for six seasons, before the so-called “McSteamy” died in a tragic plane accident in 2012’s season nine alongside Chyler Leigh‘s Lexie Grey.

While Grey’s Anatomy is notorious for killing offlot of its medical professionals, Justin’s time on the show ended in perhaps an even more heartbreaking way in 2020. His character, Dr. Alex Karev, unexpectedly left Seattle and his wife Jo (Camilla Luddington) in order to reunite with his former spouse, Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and the twins he did not know he had. All Jo got was a letter, and all fans got was a voiceover-only performance from Justin in his final episode. (But we’re not bitter or anything!)

Ellen has not forgotten the friends she’s made on the medical drama, even when they’re no longer on set with her every day. In April, she posted a sweet message on Instagram about Eric’s guest star spot on Grey’s Anatomy, which came courtesy of her character Dr. Meredith Grey’s beach-set dream sequence.

“Old friends are the best friends… wait wait….but I don’t mean WE are old… I meant that we’ve known each other a LONG time,” Ellen joked in the caption of the post, which featured a selfie of her with Eric. “Yes that’s what I mean we are like two spring chicks well one spring chick and one SILVER FOX @realericdane love and appreciate you!!!”

How the Friends Set Came To Be

The Feel Good actress, whose Netflix series returns for season two on Friday, June 4, recalled just how emotional Courteney got when she arrived on set.

“Well, Courteney comes in and burst into tears,” Lisa told E! News, “and I grab a napkin or a tissue—LeBlanc takes it because he is telling us a story and doesn’t want to skip a beat and starts dabbing her eyes, just on automatic.”

Fun fact: Jennifer previously noted the Scream alum rarely gets emotional.

Of the sweet moment, Lisa said, “That’s who we were!”

Additionally, Jennifer recently shared a similar detail as The Comeback actress about the reunion special.

“It was a sucker punch in the heart in a way,” The Morning Show star recently told Gayle King on her SiriusXM show, Gayle King in the House. “It was for all of us, I think. Even Courteney, we got tears out of! And I don’t even know—she’s so, you know, not emotional.”

“It was excitement,” the actress explained ahead of filming. “[Like] ‘This is going to be so fun to walk onto the set and they’re bringing all of the sets out from storage and putting it all back together.’ We romanticized it.”

You can stream Friends: The Reunion on HBO Max. Plus, relive some of the best moments here.

And if you’re looking for something to fill the Friends void, Lisa stars on Netflix’s Feel Good, which premieres June 4.

As fans may remember (JK, 1D fans, of course you remember!), Liam and Harry, along with Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, formed the super popular boy band in London in 2010. Since their debut, the UK X Factor finalists have won over 200 awards and gained countless adoring fans in the process, remaining one of the most popular singing groups in recent memory six years after they stopped performing.

All five group members decided to each pursue solo projects by 2016 (with Zayn departing in 2015), and Liam seemed to reference their time apart in the clip, saying, “It’s hard in this position sometimes, you’re watching people’s stories from afar that you used to know so well.”

“That can be difficult when you feel like a piece of you is missing with them at that point I guess,” he continued. “And I think we’ve all felt this at different times, me and the boys.”

Reflecting on their success as individuals, Liam shared, “It’s almost like missing a very dear friend a lot of the time, but everyone’s so busy and you’ve got to be understanding of all that.”

Every moment counts when you’re with your friends.

As pop culture fans continue to feel nostalgic and savor every moment of Friends: The Reunion special, director Ben Winston is sharing new details into how the project came about.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Ben expressed his desire to have the cast come together for the first time on camera. But when he arrived on set to see six trailers side by side, he almost panicked.

“I was so upset,” he shared. “The point of the show is they haven’t seen each other. But it was too late to move them.”

But with years of experience producing late-night and award shows, Ben acted fast and found a way to make it work. As he explained, “We built tents around each of their doorways. And I texted the six of them and said, ‘Look, I know you want to see each other but I’m begging you: please stay in your own dressing room until you’re called to the stage. I really want to catch that moment.'”

“They mocked me for wanting that moment. But they did do what I asked,” Ben shared. “And you do get the feeling that they haven’t seen each other for ages. And it’s a really beautiful moment. I’ve never seen a bond like these six have.”

In the candid interview, Ben also shared new details about he got the cast to agree on his vision for a reunion special. While the Los Angeles—based producer says there is “no leader” among the cast, David was the most involved creatively in the show.

“He was the one I had to win over first,” Ben explained. “He heard my ideas and then vouched for me.”

Next, he went to the house of Lisa Kudrow, who had invited Courteney Cox and Matt along. Ben later met Matthew Perry over FaceTime.

Jennifer Aniston was the last on board, but was immediately impressed with Ben’s ideas. “He’s like a creative unicorn,” she explained. “The work he put into the pitch, and how he got all of us so excited and inspired to say yes, showed us that he knows Friends better than all of us combined.”
