Rachel Zegler's Disney Princess Wish Comes True as Snow White in Disney's LiveAction Movie

  • While Rachel Zegler’s big break will come in 2021 as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, her next role will be Disney's iconic princess, Snow White.
  • Rachel Zegler‘s Disney wish is about to come true.

The West Side Story actress has snagged the role of Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake, her rep and Disney confirmed to E! News. Production for the adaptation of the 1938 animated film will begin in 2022, per Deadline.

Director Marc Webb spoke on the lead actress’s talents. “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts,” he shared with Deadline. “Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”

The movie will reportedly include music created by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who have already worked with Disney before. The duo created a song alongside Disney music legend Alan Menken for the 2018 live-action remake Aladdin, titled “Speechless.”

The musical pair also worked on La La Land and The Greatest Showman, as well as the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen movie adaptation starring Ben Platt.

Rachel Lindsay Details Her Bachelor Journey From Feuding With Vanessa to Why She Didn’t Pick Peter

Rachel Lindsay Details Her Bachelor Journey From Feuding With Vanessa to Why She Didn’t Pick Peter

  • In an essay for New York Magazine, Rachel Lindsay opened up about her feud with Vanessa Grimaldi, splitting up with runner-up Peter Kraus and filming as the first Black Bachelorette.

  • Watch: Would Rachel Lindsay Consider Being Next “Bachelor” Host?

Bachelor Nation, it’s time to take off those rose-colored glasses. Because Rachel Lindsay is sharing her full journey and it’s not all hot tubs and long-stemmed roses.

In a bombshell first-person essay for New York Magazine, the 36-year-old star revealed details on her entire Bachelor experience—from the complications behind competing for the affections of Nick Viall‘s heart to becoming the franchise’s first Black Bachelorette in 2017.

As a contestant on Nick’s season in early 2017, Rachel placed third overall, losing to winner and not-so-secret but now-former nemesis, Vanessa Grimaldi. While filming, the two notoriously didn’t get along, but now Rachel has opened up about their feud. “Vanessa liked him [Nick] so much, she couldn’t hear about how he kissed another woman, which lets you know how deep her feelings were,” Rachel explained. “As a result, she was unable to connect with the other women in the house.”

Rachel also went on to claim that production staged a “sit-down” between them where Vanessa accused Rachel of “bullying” her and ended the conversation in tears. Once production pulled Rachel aside immediately after the conversation, the lawyer detailed, she also became emotional at the notion of coming across as “an angry Black woman.” She reveals production assured her the scene would not air.

While it was a largely unproductive chat, she revealed their once-thorny situation has since been involved, with Rachel noting, “I am happy to say that, in real life, we put our differences aside and have a great and supportive relationship.”

When it came to having her own heart front-and-center as The Bachelorette later in that same year, Rachel chose now-husband Bryan Abasolo over fan-favorite and runner up, Peter Kraus.

On the show, her choice was portrayed as picking the sure-thing over a man waffling over a proposal, but the attorney insisted her decision was made long before Bryan dropped to one knee atop a mountain in Spain. “My head had already started to come out of the clouds with Peter by the time of ‘Hometowns,'” she explained, “the episode in which the Bachelorette visits the final four contestants at home with their families.”

Although those episodes typically center on the contestants’ families rather than their pals, Rachel got to Peter’s hometown and was in for a bit of surprise, she revealed. “I walked in and saw two Black men and two white women sitting at a table,” she explained. “I turned to my producer and gave her a look. I wish they had caught my face on-camera—the way I turned and stared at her, like, ‘Really, bitch?'”

Separated into two tables, she continued, “Peter got to talk to his homeboys, and I was with the women, who talked about having ‘mixed babies’ and what it was like to be an interracial couple. I couldn’t believe it. I’m Black. I have interracial couples in my family. I’m old enough to understand what I’m entering into and the difficulties that come with it. I felt exploited.”

She also added, “If anything, that situation turned me off of Peter because I couldn’t see myself hanging out with them. They were nice, but it was so contrived. The producers really thought, ‘How great! All these mixed couples can come together.’ They were only looking at the optics of the situation.”

In reality, she continued, she and Peter hadn’t had the sorts of deep talks about what their marriage would look like. Yet when the finale aired—complete with Peter’s comment that she would be settling for a life of mediocrity without him—viewers walked away feeling as if she had settled for Bryan. Though she couldn’t have been happier with her pick, she noted, “Publicly, I was robbed of my love story.”

As for her relationship with the series, that continued to sour with each new season—with Rachel feeling as if she was just a box they had checked off by having a Black Bachelorette—before her now-infamous February interview with Chris Harrison. “There’s no denying The Bachelor franchise changed my life,” she shared. “It’s a love-hate relationship.” But for now, it’s on hold indefinitely. “I’m no longer making myself available to The Bachelor universe,” she shared (save for chatting with any contestant in need). “I am no longer a figurehead. I am no-longer a spot-filler. I am no longer the face of what is diverse.”

After her feature hit the web on June 21 with the headline: Rachel Lindsay Has No Roses Left to Burn, Rachel took to social media to share her thoughts on the publication’s choice of words. The magazine has since released a statement addressing Rachel’s dissatisfaction with the cover line.

“I worked with New York Magazine very closely on a cover feature where I was given the opportunity to tell my story and share my experience with the Bachelor franchise,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “It was deeply personal, but I felt it was important to share. While it was a very collaborative experience, they decided to misrepresent me with the headline that was chosen for the cover.”

In addition to the headline, the magazine also included the cover line: “I thought I could change The Bachelor franchise from within. Until I realized I was their token.”

Lauren Starke, a spokesperson for the publication, shared in a statement, “New York Magazine is incredibly proud to have published Rachel Lindsay’s powerful, first-person story, detailing her experience with The Bachelor franchise. We were sorry to learn that she is unhappy with the cover line (which was not meant as a direct quote), but it shouldn’t take away from the candor and bravery of her words in the piece.”

Rachel Lindsay Says The Bachelorette's "Angry Black Female" Label "Still Follows" Her

Rachel Lindsay Says The Bachelorette's "Angry Black Female" Label "Still Follows" Her

  • On The View, Rachel Lindsay recalled the moment on The Bachelorette in which she was labeled "angry" because she decided to stand up for herself.
  • Watch: Would Rachel Lindsay Consider Being Next “Bachelor” Host?

Rachel Lindsay is shutting down the “angry Black female” label once again.

The former lead of The Bachelorette appeared on the June 4 episode of The View, in which she weighed in on the situation surrounding Real Housewives of New York‘s Eboni K. Williams. In an episode that aired earlier this week, Eboni, the first Black cast member on RHONY, accused Luann de Lesseps of labeling her an angry Black woman during an argument over a previous conversation about sex. Following the discussion, Eboni announced on Instagram that she would be taking a short break from social media.

Rachel said she relates to Eboni’s feelings about being called angry.

“In my season finale of The Bachelorette when I was sitting on stage with my runner up, my runner up told me that I was going to live a mediocre life if I didn’t choose him and my response to him was, ‘Actually I’m living my best life,'” Rachel said of her conversation with Peter Kraus. “When I came back from commercial break, the host [Chris Harrison] said to me, ‘Rachel, you seem angry.’ I looked and I said, ‘That’s a strong word.’ And he said, ‘Well, you seem upset.’ I hadn’t raised my voice, I hadn’t yelled, I hadn’t said any type of curse word.”

When he was asked for an explanation as to why he felt attacked by Rachel, Peter couldn’t offer one.

“I have been labeled an angry Black female in Bachelor Nation,” Rachel continued. “It follows me around to this day.”

The attorney added, “If in 2020 we’re supposed to be having these type of conversations, then we need to address micro-aggressions that are placed on Black women. We need to address these racial stereotypes. I think it’s important that we continue to do that.”

Rachel, who was the first Black lead of The Bachelorette, is one of the most outspoken alum in terms of fighting for equality and representation within the franchise. Earlier this year, she and Chris engaged in a conversation about a former contestant, Rachel Kirkconnell, who was called out on social media for attending an antebellum-themed party, which many believe glorifies the institution of slavery. While Chris defended Rachael, the former Bachelorette reminded Chris of what she may have represented had she gone to the event.

Following the conversation, Rachel spoke to Extra TV‘s Billy Bush about the controversy.

“In 2020, it was all about people realizing things that they hadn’t before. It was a level of awareness that was created that people hadn’t necessarily recognized,” she explained. “And out of that also came conversations that we should be having whether they’re tough, uncomfortable, whatever it may be. Isn’t that what this should be as well? It’s bigger than just The Bachelor, it’s bigger than just a reality TV show. There are a lot of issues that have come up because of this interview, and I think it’s important that we continue the conversation, we continue to move forward. And I think that’s the best thing that we can hope for out of all of this.”

  • Rachel Brosnahan, the niece of the late fashion designer Kate Spade, paid tribute to her "Katy B" on Instagram.
  • Three years after the death of Kate Spade, her niece, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan, shared a touching tribute on Instagram

Rachel took to the social media platform to post a candid photo of her aunt, along with the caption, “Missing Katy B today and every day.”

Followers shared their condolences in the comments section. One wrote, “Sending love and thinking about the ways in which you keep her light so bright.” Another added, “Love you, friend. And her spirit lives on in each of you that she loved so much.” A third shared, “I think about her every single day. But she is always with you.”

Kate died by suicide in her New York City apartment in 2018. She and Rachel were close: When Rachel won the Golden Globe for her The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel role in January 2018, Kate told Page Six, “I am beside myself! My daughter and I jumped up and down when she won. She deserves this recognition as she’s put her heart and soul into the role. We are insanely proud.”

How Kate Spade Made an Impact on the Fashion Industry

After her aunt’s passing, Rachel became the face of her fashion brand Frances Valentine. The House of Cards alum explained in an interview with Today, “I think when you lose someone you love very, very much, you spend a lot of time trying to think about how to keep their spirit alive, how they can live on for you, and that’s through memories, but also, in Katy’s case, there is so much of her, and this was an opportunity for us to celebrate her life and her legacy and how much she meant not only to us, but to so many other people and the impact that she’s had on the fashion industry. It was a really special experience, and the collection is just beautiful.”

Shortly after Kate’s death in 2018, Rachel penned an emotional post about her aunt alongside a joyous video of Kate dancing on Instagram

“She had a light that words can’t capture but touched everyone she came into contact with,” Rachel wrote at the time. “She was exceedingly kind, beautifully sensitive, insanely talented, funny as heck and one of the most generous people I have ever known. She was effervescent. Hug your loved ones extra tight today.”
