James Gandolfini's Son Michael Dives Into Sopranos Origin Story in ActionPacked Prequel Trailer

James Gandolfini's Son Michael Dives Into Sopranos Origin Story in ActionPacked Prequel Trailer

  • Take a closer look at Tony Soprano's youth in the first trailer for The Many Saints of Newark. Check out the intense, new trailer which stars James Gandolfini’s son Michael.
  • Watch: Did “The Sopranos” Kill Tony Soprano in the Series Finale?

Before he was a crime boss with an uncertain fate, Tony Soprano (Michael Gandolfini) was a New Jersey teen with a dream of going to college.

So, what went wrong? Well, as the new trailer for The Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark, teased, a mentorship from Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola) and disdain from his mother Livia (Vera Farmiga) may’ve led him astray.

“You lead by example,” Dickie comments as chaos unfolds in the first look below. “He’ll make the right decision. This kid’s got what it takes.”

It’s clear the new prequel film, which arrives October 1 on HBO Max and in theaters, will unpack Tony’s origin story in a way we could’ve never expected. It doesn’t hurt that Michael is reprising his late dad James Gandolfini‘s role.

“Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history,” teased Warner Bros Pictures’ description. “Becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his impressionable nephew will help make the teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano.”

The new trailer puts it best when it declares: “Legends aren’t born. They’re made.”

Thanks to a slew of younger actors, the film revives characters we’ve come to know and love, including Junior Soprano (Corey Stoll), Paulie Gualtieri (Billy Magnussen) and Silvio Dante (John Magaro). And, as we mentioned above, The Many Saints of Newark also introduces the late Sopranos star’s son.

In a 2019 interview with Esquire, Michael revealed that the process was more intense than he could’ve imagined.

“As an actor, I had to watch this guy who created the role, to look for mannerisms, voice, all those things I would have to echo,” he said of his dad, who passed away in 2013 at age 51 following a heart attack. “But then I’d also be seeing my father. I think what made it so hard was I had to do it alone. I was just sitting alone in my dark apartment, watching my dad all the time.”

Thankfully, Michael stuck with the role, which seems to be the perfect way to honor James’ legacy.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Royal Feud Takes Center Stage in New Lifetime Movie Trailer

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Royal Feud Takes Center Stage in New Lifetime Movie Trailer

  • As to be expected, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s explosive royal rift—including that Oprah interview—is getting the Lifetime treatment. Scroll on to watch a sneak peek.
  • Watch: Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Get Sweet Messages From Royal Family

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are once again getting the royal treatment. This time, courtesy of Lifetime.

The network’s latest film, Meghan and Harry: Escaping the Palace, will dive into the couple’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey which detailed their decision to ultimately step down as senior royals and the alleged racism Meghan faced during her time in the U.K.

In the sneak peek released June 22, Prince Harry (played by Jordan Dean) says to his struggling wife (Sydney Morton), “I see you literally being hounded to death and I’m helpless to stop it.”

To which she replies, “I am the person who is strong and gets things right. I can’t lose you.”

Though there have been other movies made about the couple, this will be the first detailing their departure from the royal family. In a bombshell Instagram post in January 2020, they announced the news and shared they were moving to North America.

Since then, they’ve kept busy—to say the least. They’ve inked deals with Spotify and Netflix, expanded their philanthropy work and, yes, sat down with Oprah for that interview. In between, they’ve celebrated their 2-year-old son Archie Harrison‘s milestones and welcome daughter Lili Diana earlier this month.

“To have any child, any one or any two would have been amazing,” Harry raved in March while sharing the news they were expecting a daughter. “But to have a boy and then a girl, you know, what more can you ask for? But now, you know, now we’ve got our family. We’ve got, you know, the four of us and our two dogs, and it’s great.”

Ted Lasso Reveals His Angry Alter Ego in New Season 2 Trailer

Ted Lasso Reveals His Angry Alter Ego in New Season 2 Trailer

  • In an all-new Ted Lasso season two trailer, the beloved AFC Richmond coach (Jason Sudeikis) reveals he isn't always so nice. Check it out.
  • Watch: Jason Sudeikis Reacts to Don Cheadle 2021 Golden Globes Moment

Ted Lasso may seem like he’s all biscuits and sunshine, but he does have a dark side.

On Monday, June 21, Apple TV+ released an all-new trailer for season two of Ted Lasso, and introduced viewers to the beloved football coach’s angry alter ego. Per the just-released teaser, Ted (played by Jason Sudeikis) has been fully embraced by the AFC Richmond community, including boss Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and the oh-so critical fans.

However, the football team’s performance on the pitch is less than stellar. Even football-loving, superstar-on-the-rise Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) is struggling to make magic happen on the field.

Thus, as Ted notes to Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Nate the Great (Nick Mohammed), “it’s time for these young fellas to meet that guy.” While a confused Nate looks on, Coach Beard quietly utters, “Oh no. Led Tasso.”

You may be wondering, “Who is Led Tasso?” Well, none other than Ted’s angry side, of course.

A fiery Ted is seen storming onto the pitch and knocking over the water table. After blowing his whistle, he shouts, “Alright, you little turd birds, start touching your toes.”

As his alter ego intensifies, “Led” instructs the players to “now touch each other’s toes.” Understandably, this direction leaves the players confused, with many of them asking, “What?”

Thankfully, Led doesn’t stick around for long as Coach Beard snaps him out of it. The often inspiring coach asks, “How long was I out?”

Coach Beard assures him, “Not as long as last time, but nobody was hurt.”

We’re dying to know what happened last time!

Despite Ted’s brief outburst, the new season looks to have many optimistic and heart-warming moments, which we’ve grown to expect from the sports comedy. Ted informs his team, “People saying there’s something wrong with us. Not the way I see it. I believe in Communism. Rom-communism that is. If Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, can go through some heartfelt struggles and still end up happy? Then, so can we.”

    You tell ’em, Ted!

Lil Dicky Sets His Sights on Doja Cat in StarStudded Dave Season 2 Trailer

Lil Dicky Sets His Sights on Doja Cat in StarStudded Dave Season 2 Trailer

  • Catch all the celebrity cameos in the new trailer for season two of Dave, returning June 16.
  • Watch: “Law & Order” & More TV Shows We’re Excited for in 2021

Lil Dicky (a.k.a. David Burd) certainly wants Doja Cat to kiss him more.

On Thursday, June 3, FXX released a new trailer for season two of their comedy Dave. Per the trailer, the new season will pick up where the first season left off, with Dave’s career on the rise and his personal life a total mess. However, success is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Namely, the first look shows Dave struggling with writer’s block and recklessly spending money. “$1,900 last week on sex paraphernalia instead of making an album,” Dave’s manager Mike (Andrew Santino) declares in the trailer below.

As the series’ star defends that he has “to cream,” Mike hits back, “Can you cream a little bit less, then?”

Despite this struggle, Dave still has plenty of A-list admirers. Case in point: Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber are seen fangirling over Dave at Benny Blanco‘s pool. “Oh my god, Benny,” Hailey remarks. “You have to bring this guy around more often.”

Expressing a similar sentiment, the KUWTK star and supermodel boasts that she’s “obsessed with him.”

Still, after matching on a dating app, it’s chart topper Doja Cat who Dave has his sights set on. And it seems Dave’s parents are even onboard, especially when their son reveals that Wikipedia states the “Kiss Me More” singer is half Jewish.

Although, we have a feeling Dave isn’t quite over his ex, Ally (Taylor Misiak). Why do we think this? Well, Dave is seen showing up at her front door.

Don’t worry, Dave has a way more awkward encounter with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar later on.

Check out the star-studded new trailer above.

Season two of Dave drops Wednesday, June 16 on FXX.

Anthony Bourdain Says There's "No Happy Ending" in First Documentary Trailer

Anthony Bourdain Says There's "No Happy Ending" in First Documentary Trailer

  • Nearly three years after Anthony Bourdain's death, his friends and family are looking back at his life and the influence he had on the world in the new documentary Roadrunner.
  • June 8 will mark three years since Anthony Bourdain took his life in a French hotel.

Since then, family, friends and fans of the chef and travel journalist have struggled to make sense of his suicide at the age of 61. At the time, his mother, Gladys Bourdain, told The New York Times, “He is absolutely the last person in the world I would have ever dreamed would do something like this.”

Now, in the upcoming documentary Roadrunner, his friends and colleagues are reflecting on who the Parts Unknown host really was and the demons he battled over the years.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? director Morgan Neville made the film using new interviews with Bourdain’s friends and loved ones, as well as footage Bourdain recorded prior to his passing.

In the trailer, Bourdain tells viewers, “You’re probably going to find out about it anyway. So, here’s a little preemptive truth telling: There’s no happy ending.”

Though Bourdain was known as a chef first and foremost, restaurateur David Chang says, “It was almost never about food. It was about Tony learning how to be a better person.”

Another friend gives insight into Bourdain’s mental health, revealing, “Reality was never going to live up to exactly how he pictured it.” A separate person adds, “He was definitely searching for something.”

As footage of Bourdain visiting foreign cities plays, artist David Choe says, “I know how hard it must have been for him to reach out to someone and be like, ‘Hey man, I’m not doing well.'”

Bourdain previously struggled with addiction issues, a topic he discussed openly and frequently throughout his career. But an autopsy report revealed he had no narcotics in his body at the time of his death.

With no explanation, his friends are left savoring the memories they have of Bourdain, who shared a daughter with ex-wife Ottavia Busia.

On his 63rd birthday in June 2019, Gail Simmons told CNN, “I’m so grateful for not just the time that I had with Anthony, for all he taught me about appreciating the world through the lens of food, how it brought people together, how it allowed us all to understand cultures all over this extraordinary earth, but also how he made us all look a little deeper into ourselves and sometimes that’s not easy, but it’s important.”

Roadrunner premieres in theaters on July 16.
