Why Hollywood Can't Get Enough of the American Cornhole League on Fourth of July and Beyond

Why Hollywood Can't Get Enough of the American Cornhole League on Fourth of July and Beyond

  • Jason Aldean, Shemar Moore, Rob Gronkowski and more stars have been captivated by the American Cornhole League long before it took over ESPN on the Fourth of July.

Basketball playoffs and baseball games are cool, but have you watched some cornhole?

This Fourth of July weekend, many sport fans will be glued to their TV screens not to watch professional athletes shoot baskets or hit home runs. Instead, they’ll be cheering on their favorite players in the American Cornhole League.

Back by popular demand, The ACL Final Chase will air live on ESPN July 4 at 1 p.m. EST. And before you assume this is just a fad, you may be surprised to see how many celebs have become intrigued by the games.

“I actually love playing outdoor sports during the summer…My favorite game out there is cornhole,” NFL player Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski previously told ESPN. “I love cornhole and when you sink four shots in a row against your opponent, it’s a great feeling.”

When asked if he would ever be interested in joining the pro league, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers player admitted to already thinking about it.

“I’ve actually heard about it,” he shared. “I’ve been recommended from many people to look into it, but I don’t know if my cornhole game is that good. I feel like every single shot, those pros put it in. Maybe one day, but as of right now, I just love to show up at backyard parties and play some cornhole.”

For many Americans cornhole is a simple lawn game in which players take turns throwing 16-ounce bags of corn kernels at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores three points, while one on the board scores one point. All ages are welcome to play and it’s been a staple at BBQs and beach parties in recent years.

For some Hollywood actors, however, they’ve developed a serious love for the game and have invited professional players over to compete.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show back in November 2020, Shemar Moore said he has introduced the game to his S.W.A.T. co-stars who can’t get enough.

“The game that is taking over—and they even have it on ESPN—the game is cornhole,” he explained. “It’s serious business at my house. I bought these cornhole boxes and it’s 27 feet apart and we play with a couple actors and friends from S.W.A.T. David Lim has made literal Super Bowl rings that say Casa Del Sham ’cause my friends call me Sham. So it’s Casa Del Sham, cornhole king.”

The actor continued, “On Sunday, we have Sunday Funday and we have cornhole tournaments, but it’s serious and you’re playing for a ring and when you win a ring, you keep the ring.”

Host Kelly Clarkson supported the idea and even joked that she would love an invite one weekend. “I’d be bedazzled, man. I’m really good at cornhole, I’m just saying,” she said. “Even if I have one glass of wine, then I’m amazing.”

As the ACL prepares to crown a major winner this weekend, millions of viewers are expected to tune in. Country singers Jake Owen and Jason Aldean have previously documented their journeys watching the games on social media.

And regardless of who wins or loses, Hollywood truly seems down to play.

“Tossing bags with the best cornhole player in the world, @treyburch_acl!” David recently shared on Instagram. “They call him Robot for a reason. What an honor… and yes, he absolutely smoked me.”

Co-announcer Akbar Gbajabiamila seems to think so in this eye-popping, exclusive trailer for American Ninja Warrior season 13, airing Mondays at 8 p.m. on NBC. The “teen invasion” season promises to showcase impressive skills with a lowered age limit to 15 years old—and these teenagers are going up against veteran Warriors, as host Zuri Hall explains.

The clip highlights this season’s teen invasion and the young contestants’ insane talents while holding their own versus famed ANW champions. “These kids are going to blow your mind,” multi-winner Jesse Labreck gushes.

As ANW taps into the fountain of youth, it seems the adults will have to bring their A-game to compete against these budding talents. “These teenagers are not kidding around,” the video teases. “The future is now.”

Announcer Matt Iseman adds, “These are high school sophomores going against full-grown legend Ninjas,” while applauding the “next generation” of ANW winners.

David Archuleta has not felt ostracized by his religious community since coming out as a member of the LGTBQIA+ community, he revealed during a June 23 appearance on Good Morning America

The 30-year-old American Idol alum, who is a devout Mormon, said “he hasn’t felt rejected” after sharing his sexual orientation with church leaders.

While Archuleta previously did not claim a label in his coming out post, he now says he identifies as “some form of being bisexual.” He also shared that he has not dated a man and does not plan to have sex until marriage.

Accepting his identity has been a journey in self-love for Archuleta.

“I’ve had to learn how to love myself, even when I don’t understand why I am the way that I am,” Archuleta continued. “To learn that that’s how God has created me. And I have to discover that, and there’s so many millions of other people who have gone through the same thing as me—they’ve tried to change who they are.”

He also admitted he was “scared” before coming out.

“Because I always felt there was something that I had to keep to myself,” he expressed. “There’s so much relief to not feel like you have to hide a part of yourself, like a secret.”

Archuleta, who said he struggled early on with reconciling his feelings for men and women, offered advice to those who might not understand or accept him in his coming out post on Instagram on June 12.

The “Crush” singer wrote in his caption, “For people who don’t really understand how feelings outside of just being heterosexual can be possible and okay I just plead that you be more understanding to people who experience and struggle with things that you may not experience or understand yourself.”

The American Idol star continued, “I just invite you to please consider making room to be more understanding and compassionate to those who are LGBTQIA+, and those who are part of that community and trying to find that balance with their faith which also is a huge part of their identity like myself.”

He also noted that he shouldn’t have to push out one part of his identity—being in the LGBTQIA+ community—to make room for his faith, concluding, “For me to find peace the reality has been to accept both are real things I experience and make [me] who I am.”

American Horror Story Spinoff Teases the Return of Murder House

American Horror Story Spinoff Teases the Return of Murder House

  • American Horror Story fans can expect a return to season one's Murder House in the new spinoff, titled American Horror Stories. See the new teaser pic.
  • Watch: Macaulay Culkin Joins “American Horror Story” Season 10

    Horror comes home.

This was the very message highlighted in the new teaser pic for American Horror Story‘s spinoff series, titled American Horror Stories. Promising an “American Horror Summer” ahead of AH Stories‘ July 15 premiere on FX on Hulu, the new promotional image featured a key fixature American Horror Story fans know quite well. We’re, of course, talking about the season one’s terrifying location: Murder House.

Surrounded by dark clouds, crows and a blood red field, Murder House sits in the distance as a new Rubber Man, or rather Rubber Woman, looks on. So, how much of Murder House can we expect from the new spinoff? We aren’t necessarily sure.

As E! News readers may recall, AH Stories “is a weekly anthology series that will feature a different horror story each episode,” according to FX Chairman John Landgraf. Thus, Murder House may only return for one part of the new show.

Everything We Know About American Horror Story Season 10

In regard to the mysterious Rubber Woman? It’s unclear who has picked up the daunting suit, which was first made famous by Evan Peters‘ Tate Langdon character in season one. Later on in the series, devil spawn Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) donned the suit to commit murders in, you guessed it, the Murder House.

Earlier this month, creator Ryan Murphy took to Instagram to reveal the cast—which includes Glee‘s Kevin McHalePose‘s Dyllón Burnside, Riverdale‘s Charles Melton and The Prom‘s Nico Greetham—who would be leading AH Stories. Alongside a photo of the four actors, Ryan wrote, “The Fantastic Four.”

Following the announcement, Kevin also took to Instagram to share the same group photo, writing, “Prom + Glee + Pose + Hotel = ?” (For the record, Charles is an American Horror Story alum, having appeared in two episodes from season five, American Horror Story: Hotel.)

Fans of the franchise are certainly in for a scary summer as, once the spooky spinoff wraps, season 10 of the OG series, titled American Horror Story: Double Feature, will premiere Wednesday, August 25 on FX. Last month, the network teased, “More horror than you can handle.”

    You can say that again!

American Horror Story: Double Feature Finally Has a Premiere Date

American Horror Story: Double Feature Finally Has a Premiere Date

  • On Thursday, June 3, FX confirmed the premiere date for season 10 of American Horror Story. And we’ve got details on when you can expect the spinoff.
  • Watch: Macaulay Culkin Joins “American Horror Story” Season 10

Prepare for some scares this summer.

On Thursday, June 3, FX confirmed the premiere date for season 10 of American Horror Story. The upcoming season of the Ryan Murphy anthology series, titled American Horror Story: Double Feature, will premiere Wednesday, August 25 on FX.

“More horror than you can handle,” the network teased on Twitter. “@ahsfx: double feature premieres august 25 on FX & next day on #FXonHulu.”

This is certainly good news for fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the latest installment since the cast list was announced in February 2020. We’ve had to be particularly patient since production on the new season was delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Thankfully, by the end of 2020, filming was well underway and the season’s stars—including Macaulay Culkin, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross, Finn Wittrock and more—were ready.

And FX has more than made up for the delay as, prior to season 10’s debut, a spinoff series will be available to stream on FX on Hulu. Alongside a new title card, the network shared on Twitter, “these are not your typical bedtime stories. American Horror Stories premieres July 15 exclusively on #FXonHulu.”

American Horror Story‘s Shocking Casting Moves

FX has been gearing up for quite the spooky summer as, back in May, the network’s chairman John Landgraf confirmed that the shows would arrive with the warmer temperatures. “Coming in July, exclusively for FX on Hulu is American Horror Stories, a spinoff of our long-running, award-winning hit series American Horror Story,” Landgraf said at the time. “American Horror Stories is a weekly anthology series that will feature a different horror story each episode.”

We can’t tell if our goosebumps are from fear or excitement! So, for everything we know about American Horror Story: Double Feature, scroll through the images below.

    The Premiere Date

On Thursday, June 3, FX confirmed that season 10 of American Horror Story will debut on August 25. As for the spinoff series, American Horror Stories? That series will be premiering on July 15 on FX on Hulu.

    Kaia Gerber’s Debut

On March 23, 2021, Murphy announced that 19-year-old supermodel Kaia Gerber is joining the cast of American Horror Story season 10. There is no further info on her character or the extent of her role, but Murphy said he was excited to welcome her to the family.

    American Horror Story: Double Feature

On March 19, 2021, Ryan Murphy revealed the title for the long-awaited 10th season of American Horror Story. It’s called Double Feature, and it has a tagline: “Two horrifying stories, one season. One by the sea, one by the sand.”

In a response to a fan on Instagram, Murphy explained a little further. “It means TWO SEASONS for the fans airing in one calendar year!” he said. “So double the viewing pleasure. One set by the sea (this cast already announced). A second by the sand (that cast announcement coming).”

Leslie Grossman later weighed in on Twitter, explaining, “You guys. It’s one season, two stories. Like a two-fer. Like 2 mini seasons. It’s gonna be great.”

That means we’re still waiting for a whole cast announcement! The location of Murphy’s post was also set to Provincetown, Massachusetts, so it seems like we’re headed to New England.

    “Night Moves”

On March 11, 2021, Murphy shared this image with the caption “Night Moves.” Spooky!

    The Cast (Part 1)

One of the first things we knew about season 10 was its cast, which included a bunch of beloved returning players. On Feb. 26, 2020, Ryan Murphy announced that Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross, Finn Wittrock and Denis O’Hare would all star, along with Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. Frances Conroy was added later on, replacing Kathy Bates, who had to drop out due to health issues. Kaia Gerber and Spencer Novich will also be part of the cast.

Of all the names initially announced, Macaulay Culkin was the one that turned the most heads. Now, it t urns out this is just the first cast. A whole other cast is still coming!

The Return of Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters

Paulson and Peters both took a their first AHS breaks for season nine, but will return for season 10.

When asked if she’d be a series regular, Paulson said, “I should hope so!” Needless to say, she’ll be one of the leads once again.

    Macaulay Culkin’s “Crazy Erotic Sex”

In a May 2020 interview with E! News, Murphy explained how he got Culkin to sign on to play a “very, very great insane part.”

“I asked to speak to him on the phone and he said OK,” Murphy said. “[When] I cast, I never let people read things, usually. I said, ‘OK, here’s the pitch.’ And I told them the character and I told him he has crazy, erotic sex with Kathy Bates and does other things. And he paused and he goes, ‘This sounds like the role I was born to play.’ So, he signed up right then and there.”

Unfortunately, Bates had to drop out, so the crazy, erotic sex will now be with Frances Conroy, though he appears to also be close to Grossman. The first set pic featured Grossman and Culkin decked out in furs on a beach.

    Meet Spencer Novich

In November 2020, Murphy shared a video to his Instagram of the audition that got artist and Cirque du Soleil performer Spencer Novich a gig in season 10. It is straight up terrifying, and it’s almost shocking that this is Novich’s first appearance in the series.

    The First Key Art

On March 10, 2020, Murphy shared this image with the caption, “Things are beginning to wash up on shore…”

    A Clue

Murphy shared this picture of a beach on May 27, 2020. All he wrote was, “American Horror Story. Clue.”

    Another Clue

On August 28, Murphy announced that production was aiming for an October start date with this picture of some scary teeth. “And yes this is a clue,” he wrote. That October start date did not end up happening.

    Sharper Teeth

In November, Murphy shared this key art with no caption. The teeth are sharper and more in focus, and someone appears to be getting a tongue tattoo. Sharp teeth, tongue tattoos and windy beaches aren’t making a whole lot of sense yet, but we can’t say we’re not intrigued.
