The MixtapE! Presents J Balvin, Taylor Swift, Luke Hemmings and More New Music Musts

  • Featuring new releases from J Balvin, Luke Hemmings, Jordan McGraw, 2PM, Big Red Machine featuring Taylor Swift and more, your playlist for the weekend of July 2-4 has arrived.

New music Fridays are a thrilling, yet daunting prospect for any music lover.

It’s essentially a weekly holiday where fan-favorite artists and fresh faces alike drop their latest offerings for all the world to hear, flooding streaming services and digital retailers with an onslaught of aural goodies. But who has the time to sit there and listen to everything before updating their playlists? There’s just too much good stuff! (And, if we’re being honest, usually a few stinkers, too.)

As it turns out, we do. Welcome to The MixtapE!

Whether your holiday weekend plans include fireworks or barbecuing, you’re gonna need an explosive playlist. Fortunately, some of our favorite artists have been experimenting with new sounds and collaborators, and they’re ready for the world to hear.

After Taylor Swift enlisted Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon for her last two folksy albums, she returns the favor this week with a feature on “Renegade,” an emotional single from their band Big Red Machine.

J Balvin teamed up with Skrillex and a TikTok star for one hot party anthem, while Luke Hemmings is spending this summer showing a new side of himself—outside of 5 Seconds of Summer—by releasing his introspective debut solo single and album. Blink-182‘s Travis Barker is expanding his portfolio as well, producing a new track by jxdn and Machine Gun Kelly that sounds straight out of the early 2000s.

They all turned out to be worthwhile endeavors, as their biggest fans are eating up the new music. Top off your Fourth of July playlist with a little romance, thanks to bops from Jordan McGraw, 2PM and Andy Grammer.

What follows are our picks for the best of the best.

J Balvin feat. Skrillex — “In Da Getto”

J Balvin welcomed two new beings into the world this week. His partner, Valentina Ferrer, gave birth to their first child, Rio, on June 27, and now he has dropped the catchy “In Da Getto” with DJ and producer Shrillex.

The song’s artwork and music video also feature a surprising cameo from TikTok comedian Khaby Lame (as if you needed any more reasons to listen). The Prince of Reggaeton heads out on tour in the U.S. and Mexico this summer, and this number better be on the setlist.

Big Red Machine feat. Taylor Swift — “Renegade”

“Renegade” is basically the evermore bonus track we never knew we needed. Swift teamed up for a third time with songwriter Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon for this fast-paced single from How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?, the second studio album from the guys’ band Big Red Machine (out Aug. 27). After the trio collab’d on “exile” and “evermore,” their latest work feels like a dreamy reunion.

“This song was something we wrote after we finished evermore and it dawned on us that this was a BRM song. Taylor’s words hit me so hard when I heard her first voice memo and still do, every time,” Dessner tweeted. “I’m so grateful to Taylor for continuing to share her incredible talent with me and that we are still finding excuses to make music together.”

Swift, who will also appear on BRM’s “Birch,” gushed, “When [Dessner] came into my life, I was ushered into his world of free-flowing creativity where you don’t overthink, you just make music.”

    Jordan McGraw — “SHE”

McGraw continues to melt our hearts. The husband of E!’s own Morgan Stewart and the son of Dr. Phil, McGraw released “HER” in April, just months after he became a dad when the couple welcomed their daughter, Row.

Now, he’s sweeping us off our feet once again with the steamy follow up, “SHE,” as he prepares to embark on the Jonas Brothers‘ Remember This tour. He sings on the new track, “She likes to talk in the sleep / A simple conversation turn it into a scene / She likes to fight in her sleep / An irrational account of an encounter with me.”

    Luke Hemmings — “Starting Line”

Five seconds of streaming is all it takes to know Hemmings can make it as a solo artist. The 5 Seconds of Summer vocalist is striking out on his own with his first solo single, “Starting Line.” The heartbreaking ballad gives the first taste of his intriguing debut album, When Facing The Things We Turn Away From, coming Aug. 13.

Hemmings wrote on YouTube that this project “grew out of a year of enforced stillness.” The Australian singer, 24, explained, “I’m so grateful for the journey this album has taken me on and I’m so thankful to have had this creative outlet during my time at home. Lyrically and sonically, this album has allowed me to decipher the last 10 years of my life and help me make sense of the person I am today and how I got here.”

jxdn feat. Machine Gun Kelly — “WANNA BE”

Kourtney Kardashian, get ready to blast this all day long! Her boyfriend, Travis Barker, recruited 20-year-old singer and TikToker Jaden Hossler (known as jxdn) as the first artist signed to his DTA Records label. Barker produced his debut album, the 18-track Tell Me About Tomorrow, which includes this angsty single with Machine Gun Kelly.

The pop punk collaboration surely calls for another chic double date between Kardashian, Barker, Machine Gun Kelly and girlfriend Megan Fox to celebrate.

    2PM — “Make It”

MUST is obviously a must for K-pop fans! The South Korean boy band made a big splash with its first album in five years on Monday, June 28. As for “Make It,” the music video has already surpassed 20 million views in just five days. The apocalyptic serenade features all the members—Jun. K, Nichkhun, Taecyeon, JunhoWooyoung and Chansung—confessing their love as it rains fireballs on Earth.

Andy Grammer — “Lease on Life”

From the artist behind “Good to be Alive,” “Keep Your Head Up” and “Fine By Me,” this upbeat single oozes with the same optimism that made his previous songs a hit. Like the rest of us coming out of the pandemic, Grammer is hopeful that “Everything’s gonna be alright / Got a brand new lease on life / When I look into your eyes.”

As the proud father of two wrote on Instagram, “I hope it comes across for you and makes you feel a little bit of that when you hear it. Do me a personal favor and get into a car, roll down your windows, blare it super loud and let go of some of the emotional weight of this last year. I am so damn excited for you all to hear it.”

Happy listening and happy Fourth of July weekend!

The MixtapE! Presents Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Tyler, The Creator and More New Music Musts

The MixtapE! Presents Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Tyler, The Creator and More New Music Musts

  • Featuring new releases from Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Tyler, The Creator, Rauw Alejandro and more, your playlist for the weekend of June 25-27 has arrived.
  • Watch: Ed Sheeran & Cherry Seaborn Welcome a Baby Girl

New music Fridays are a thrilling, yet daunting prospect for any music lover.

It’s essentially a weekly holiday where fan-favorite artists and fresh faces alike drop their latest offerings for all the world to hear, flooding streaming services and digital retailers with an onslaught of aural goodies. But who has the time to sit there and listen to everything before updating their playlists? There’s just too much good stuff! (And, if we’re being honest, usually a few stinkers, too.)

As it turns out, we do. Welcome to The MixtapE!

Ed Sheeran is donning a pink vampire suit and sinking his teeth into the music scene once again.

The British singer—and new dad to Lyra Antarctica—just dropped his first solo single since “Happier” from his 2017 album Divide. The catchy “Bad Habits” and its accompanying music video compare a vampire’s thirst with thirsting after a late night hookup, in a video you have to see to believe.

Not to be outdone, TikTok sensation and three-time Grammy nominee Doja Cat released her third studio album with a star-studded lineup of featured artists.

Also coming through with new music this week are Rauw AlejandroFLETCHERBastille, LANY and Tyler, The Creator. What follows are our picks for the best of the best.

MixtapE!: Ed Sheeran, Doja CatE! Illustration

    Ed Sheeran — “Bad Habits”

Ed essentially transformed into Edward Cullen for his latest music video, complete with glittering undead eye makeup and prosthetic fangs. He’s on the prowl for his next guilty pleasure, singing, “Nothin’ happens after two, it’s truе, it’s true / My bad habits lead to you.”

After releasing the spooky single and vid, Ed is already teasing more music on the way. “Love all your reactions to Bad Habits too, the wheels are in motion for the autumn,” the 30 year old wrote on Instagram. Obviously, we’re left craving more.

Doja Cat and The Weeknd — “You Right”

It’s Planet Her, and we’re all just living in it.

The queen of TikTok smashes, Doja Cat (who was born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini) is welcoming us all into her dazzling world with her third studio album. Following the tone set by the lead single “Kiss Me More” with SZA, Doja enlists The Weeknd, Young Thug, JID and even Ariana Grande for Planet Her.

It seems Ari is returning the favor after tapping Doja for “motive” for her Positions album, and then a remix of “34+35” with Megan Thee Stallion. Fans now get to hear the dynamic duo reunite on the new “I Don’t Do Drugs,” in which they’re “chasing that rush” and addicted to the drug of love, opposed a more nefarious substance.

But perhaps the “Say So” singer’s biggest draw is the raspy “You Right” with The Weeknd. Doja, 25, channels a Greek goddess in the cinematic music video, set in a columned palace courtyard before she ascends into outer space. There, the Canadian R&B singer watches over her as a giant, omnipresent god (in a suit and shades, natch). Need we say more?

    Tyler, The Creator — “JUGGERNAUT”

Tyler, 30, is ready for us to hear his sixth studio album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, which includes contributions from Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Wayne, 42 Dugg and more. Following the singles “LUMBERJACK” and “WUSYANAME,” “JUGGERNAUT” is one standout of the Grammy winner’s latest album as it marks his fifth collaboration with Pharrell Williams.

However, Tyler took to Twitter on Friday to clear up one rumor about the track, which also features Lil Uzi Vert in a show-of-strength music video. After one fan claimed “JUGGERNAUT” was from a “scrapped” album from Pharrell and Uzi, Tyler set the record straight, saying, “idk who starts narratives but it is not from a scrapped p and uzi album, idk where you got that info from.” You heard it here first!

    Rauw Alejandro — “Sexo Virtual”

The Puerto Rican musician’s sophomore album VICE VERSA celebrates the best of urban music. In Rauw’s own words, “It’s a highly personal record.” In a press release, he admitted that it is “filled with contrasts, reflecting the roller coaster of emotions that I’ve experimented in recent times. I wanted to pour all those emotions into an album.”

He turned up the heat for “Sexo Virtual” (“Virtual Sex”), from the steamy lyrics to the trippy music video about a futuristic virtual reality experience. “The video is truly mind blowing and fun,” Rauw tells E! News exclusively. “We had a blast shooting it.”

    FLETCHER — “Healing”

FLETCHER, who was planning to tour with Niall Horan before the pandemic hit, reflects on an emotional journey toward recovery in this more mellow and dreamy single. “I’ve been feeling inside out in my feelings / Upside down on the ceiling / I’m finally breathing / The smoke ain’t gone but it’s clearing,” she sings in “Healing.”

As the artist explained on social media, “i have always placed value in everything externally — thinking i needed everything and everyone else to be alright. and my healing was realizing that everything i have ever needed was already right here. i’m waking up to that power.”

Earlier this year, Cari Elise Fletcher released the empowering single “On Fire Again” for a little-known Netflix movie called To All The Boys: Always and Forever. You’ll also surely recognize her biggest bops “War Paint” and “Undrunk.”

LANY — “dancing in the kitchen”

A taste of LANY’s future, the first single from the trio’s next album has arrived. A lowkey love song, “dancing in the kitchen” is perfect for late night summer drives, as it recognizes all the mundane yet intimate moments you cherish together.

“And it doesn’t matter what we do / We could have nothing at all and still feel like nothing’s missing,” proclaim the Los Angeles band, which dropped “I Quit Drinking” with Kelsea Ballerini earlier this month.

    Bastille — “Distorted Light Beam”

If you were obsessed with “Pompeii” in 2013, allow us to introduce you to Bastille’s new sound. Described by the label as a “retro-futuristic pop song,” their “Distorted Light Beam” is the first number from their fourth studio album, expected later this year.

“When I’m dreaming tonight, I can be anyonе / So don’t wake me up, don’t wake mе up,” the English rockers sing, while background dancers in red cloaks (à la Handmaid’s Tale) circle around actress Remmie Milner (of Save Me fame) in the music vid.

Adding to your teenage nostalgia? “Distorted Light Beam” is co-written and co-produced by OneRepublic‘s Ryan Tedder.

    Happy listening!

The MixtapE! Presents H.E.R., The Jonas Brothers and More New Music Musts

The MixtapE! Presents H.E.R., The Jonas Brothers and More New Music Musts

  • Featuring new releases from H.E.R., the Jonas Brothers, BANKS, Mau y Ricky and more, your playlist for the weekend of June 18-20 has arrived.
  • Watch: How Frankie Jonas Became the Internet’s Favorite Jonas Brother

New music Fridays are a thrilling, yet daunting prospect for any music lover.

It’s essentially a weekly holiday where fan-favorite artists and fresh faces alike drop their latest offerings for all the world to hear, flooding streaming services and digital retailers with an onslaught of aural goodies. But who has the time to sit there and listen to everything before updating their playlists? There’s just too much good stuff! (And, if we’re being honest, usually a few stinkers, too.)

As it turns out, we do. Welcome to The MixtapE!

Ladies and gentlemen, H.E.R. has done it again. The 23-year-old, four-time Grammy winner just dropped her debut studio album, Back of My Mind, and it’s safe to say BOMM is the bomb.

Thanks to the latest releases from girls so cool their names have to be stylized in all caps (ahem, we’re talking about both H.E.R. and BANKS), your Last Day of School playlist just got a lot more edgy.

Plus, turn up the volume on new songs from our longtime favorites: the Jonas Brothers, Jennifer Hudson and Diana Ross. What follows are our picks for the best of the best.

H.E.R. feat. Ty Dolla $ign — “Back of My Mind”

“Back of My Mind” is the self-reflective titular track of the already-accomplished singer’s debut studio album (which may come as a surprise since she previously released five EPs). As the lyrics suggest, H.E.R. is making a case for being “the greatest of all time” with these 21 songs, featuring Chris BrownDJ Khaled, Lil Baby and more.

The musician shared in a press release that she’s learning to open up about “things I may have been afraid to say or admit,” adding, “I’m finding freedom in being truthful with expression.”

It’s hard not to be blown away listening to BOMM, when you realize she won the 2021 Grammy for Song of the Year in March (for “I Can’t Breathe”) and, the next month, took home the Best Original Song trophy at the 2021 Oscars (for “Fight For You”). What can’t she do?

As her alter ego H.E.R., Gabi Wilson proves “We Made it,” big time.

    BANKS — “The Devil”

Demi Lovato was dancing with the devil, and now BANKS is the devil. The alt artist (born Jillian Rose Banks) released her new single and music video, which featured her dressed in a fiery red ensemble as she taunts her next victim. Buckle up for this flamin’ hot ride to hell.

    Diana Ross — “Thank You”

The icon is back with her first album in 15 years—and 25th overall. Diana gave one big Thank You gift to her fans by debuting the lead single from her upcoming album, expected this fall.

Her daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, is just as hyped as we are, plugging “new music from my mama” on Instagram this week. And as the artist herself wrote on social media, “I am just filled with gratitude, the songs on this album are dedicated to each of you from my heart.” Thank YOU, Ms. Ross.

The Jonas Brothers — “Remember This”

Remember this, when the JoBros teased their upcoming single at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards? Tonight, the nostalgic trio will drop their song of the summer, unveiling “Remember This” during the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on NBC at 10 p.m. ET.

Better start memorizing the lyrics, because Kevin, Nick and Joe are touring the U.S. with Kelsea Ballerini starting in August.

Jennifer Hudson — “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)”

The latest preview of J.Hud stepping into the shoes of Aretha Franklin is here! As she prepares to star as the late legend on the big screen, Jennifer released the original song “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home).” The will.i.am-produced number will be included on soundtrack of the movie RESPECT, which hits theaters Aug. 13.

Jennifer teamed with Carole King and Jamie Hartman as co-writers for the powerful anthem, which shows off her ever-impressive vocals. As the Dreamgirls alum wrote on social media, “Music was always what brought Aretha back home, and this song is our tribute to her incredible journey.”

Mau y Ricky, Sebastián Yatra and Mora — “3 de La Mañana”

One fan called this a song for that person you call drunk at 3 a.m., and if that doesn’t sell it, we don’t know what will.

Reggaeton duo (and brothers) Mau and Ricky joined forces with Sebastián, the Colombian superstar, and Mora, who previously collabed with Bad Bunny, for this emotionally-complicated bop that’s perfect for your next house party.

    Griff — “Shade of Yellow”

It’s not every day you get a glowing review from Taylor Swift! Before announcing Red (Taylor’s Version) is on the way, the pop queen turned fans on to the newly-released mixtape of the 20-year-old English singer Griff. One Foot in Front of the Other includes the title song about bouncing back from a breakup, the heartbreaking fan-favorite “Earl Grey Tea” and Taylor’s personal pick “Shade of Yellow.”

“I’m so in awe of Griff- you GOTTA go listen to the EXCELLENT Shade of Yellow solo written and produced by Griff,” Taylor gushed on her Instagram Story. “The music she makes is so unique and adventurous & she’s such a brilliant creator. Go stream!” Enough said…

Happy listening and Happy Father’s Day weekend!

The MixtapE! Presents Tinashe, Cynthia Erivo and More New Music Musts

  • Featuring new releases from Tinashe, Cynthia Erivo, BRELAND, Joy Oladokun and more, your playlist for the first weekend in June has arrived.
  • Watch: Mariah Carey SLAMS Jay-Z Fallout Rumors

New music Fridays are a thrilling, yet daunting prospect for any music lover.

It’s essentially a weekly holiday where fan-favorite artists and fresh faces alike drop their latest offerings for all the world to hear, flooding streaming services and digital retailers with an onslaught of aural goodies. But who has the time to sit there and listen to everything before updating their playlists? There’s just too much good stuff! (And, if we’re being honest, usually a few stinkers, too.)

As it turns out, we do. Welcome to The MixtapE!

    Somehow, it’s June.

And not only does that mean summer is officially upon is, but it’s time to celebrate Black Music Appreciation Month too! Fittingly, there are a number of Black artists offering up new releases worth your time. From the return of Tinashe to the long-awaited foray into original music from Cynthia Erivo and so many more, these are our picks for the best of the week’s best.

    Tinashe feat. Buddy — “Pasadena”

About her first solo release of the year, a high-energy bouncing bop perfect for the summer months, Tinashe told E! News, “I hope this song makes people want to dance! I’m all about bringing good vibes and joy into 2021!” Mission accomplished. Fingers crossed this is the lead single to the fifth studio album we’ve been waiting for.

    Cynthia Erivo — “The Good”

We’re not quite sure how it took the superstar multi-hyphenate this long to release original music of her own, but judging by this lead single off her forthcoming debut album Ch. 1 Vs. 1, the wait was well worth it. The pop-soul production is a dream and Cynthia’s vocal performance is impeccable, per usual. Is it September yet?

BRELAND feat. Keith Urban — “Throw It Back”

The genre-bending up-and-comer reteams with the country legend after their collab on Keith’s 2020 album The Speed of Now Part 1 for this country-trap track that feels tailor-made for your pool party and summer BBQ playlists.

Joy Oladokun — “let it be me”

It feels unfair to single out just one track from the singer-songwriter’s stunning major label debut LP, In Defense of My Own Happiness. The entire album is just that good. But this achingly intimate and engrossing song is a great place to start if you’re looking for a sense of just how special Joy is.

Mykki Blanco feat. Kari Faux — “Summer Fling”

Ahead of the release of their forthcoming mini-album Broken Hearts & Beauty Sleep, Mykki’s released this track that takes inspiration from the early aughts production of Missy Elliott and Timbaland. “I wanted ‘Summer Fling’ to feel like a song I could have heard at my middle school dance, maybe it’s because those were the years in which I was coming of age,” they said in a press release announcing the single. It may be referencing the past, but this one feels so perfectly of the moment. It’s a whole bop.

    Lucky Daye — “Running Blind”

Appearing on the upcoming Liberated / Music For The Movement Vol. 3 EP from ESPN’s The Undefeated, this track from the rising R&B star is a searing and empowering scorcher.

POLO & PAN feat. Channel Tres — “Tunnel”

It may seem like we’re always including a Channel Tres track here at The MixtapE!, but it’s not our fault that the guy is wildly prolific. Here he teams up with French electro-pop duo POLO & PAN for a woozy little wonder that practically demands to be played late-night as you get into whatever after-hours mischief awaits you.

    Kidd Kenn — “Good Day”

One listen to this upbeat track from the queer Chicago hip-hop sensation and it’s easy to see why it was chosen for a sync-up in the Target x NY Pride online ad. “I just wanted to make a track that people heard and instantly felt confident after hearing it,” Kidd said in a press release. “I wanted everyone to have a good day. Working with Target was wonderful, exciting—it was something new. It was a dream that I always wished for.”

    Happy listening!
