Lo Bosworth Details Her Ongoing Struggle With "Trauma" Caused by The Hills

Lo Bosworth Details Her Ongoing Struggle With "Trauma" Caused by The Hills

  • Lo Bosworth shared that she still deals with "trauma" stemming from her time on The Hills, which has led her to firmly distance herself from the current spinoff.

Lo Bosworth has absolutely no desire to release her inhibitions or feel the rain on her skin.

The 34-year-old reality TV personality, who rose to prominence on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County before becoming a regular part of spinoff The Hills, reminisced about her years in the limelight during an appearance on the podcast Unzipped that was released on Wednesday, June 30.

In explaining her shift to a career as an entrepreneur rather than a life in front of the camera, Lo told co-hosts Shenae Grimes and AnnaLynne McCord that her time on the MTV staples made her realize she doesn’t actually enjoy being on TV. As such, she did not join former co-stars Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt and the rest of the gang in returning for sequel series The Hills: New Beginnings, which is currently airing its second season.

“It’s interesting to me to see the people that have chosen to continue to participate in The Hills,” she said. Lo continued with a laugh, “I’m like, ‘Wow, you guys are really leaning into your TV persona for whatever reason, right? For a paycheck, for attention, fame—whatever it is that you need that fulfills you.'”

The star, whose given name is Lauren, shared that producers’ decisions in how to shape the characters and story lines became a downside as well. “More so, I was just not interested in other people in an editing thing deciding, ‘OK, for Lauren the person, who are we going to present her and what she’s going to be doing,'” she recalled.

Lo went on to say she would be “totally happy and content if nobody on this Earth knew who I was,” given that she’s now passionate about projects including Love Wellness, the personal care brand she founded. As she explained, her experience as a member of UCLA’s Class of 2008, which overlapped with the peak of The Hills‘ popularity, played into her decision to leave Hollywood in the rearview.

“All of this stuff, like still to this day, makes me feel a little uncomfortable,” Lo said. “Probably, it comes back to just being young, being on TV for the first time, being at college, kids making fun of you. I think that initial trauma has never really left. I would prefer to just be an anonymous person, but I opened Pandora’s box. I can never close it again.”

She added, “But in the way that the people who are doing The Hills are leaning in, I’m leaning in just a totally different direction.”

This is hardly the first time the TV personality has made it clear she has no desire to film again with her former co-stars. On an episode of her Lady Lovin’ podcast in February 2018, Lo said she no longer wanted “any association with any of those people.”

Reese Witherspoon Reveals She Underwent Hypnosis to Treat Panic Attacks Caused By This Role

Reese Witherspoon Reveals She Underwent Hypnosis to Treat Panic Attacks Caused By This Role

  • Reese Witherspoon spoke to Tracee Ellis Ross about the anxiety-inducing role that "scared" her enough to make her seek professional treatment ahead of filming.

Reese Witherspoon is revealing how her role in 2014’s Wild impacted her mental health.

In a conversation with Tracee Ellis Ross for Interview magazine, the 45-year-old actress recalls taking on the challenge of portraying Cheryl Strayed in Wild, saying she was “so scared” about filming the project.

“I was having panic attacks for three weeks before I started,” she shares, explaining the “nudity, sexuality, and drug-use” were intimidating aspects.

Another anxiety-inducing factor for Reese was “being alone on camera with no other actors.” As she explains, “I hadn’t ever been alone in scenes for days and days. There were probably 25 days of the shoot where I had no other actor opposite me. It was just me and a camera and a backpack.”

The Morning Show actress reveals she also found herself questioning, “Is this going to be so boring?”

But with less than a month to go until filming, Reese had to combat her fears, so she turned to hypnosis.

And though she could’ve walked away from the role, the Oscar winner said the movie was so important to her as a woman.

“Cheryl Strayed’s book was so beautiful and sacred to me because it spoke to me so deeply about how we as women have to save ourselves. There’s no mother or father coming to save us. There’s no spouse,” she shares. “I thought it was radical that at the end of the film, she ends up with no family, no money, no job, no partner, and she’s happy.”

Reese adds, “I don’t know if I’ll ever work that hard again, but it changed me on a cellular level.”

The mother of three has been increasingly open about her mental health, especially as the world entered the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. She previously shared how she’d “lay on the floor and cry,” because she’s simply “overwhelmed.”

And more recently she admitted to winging it when she first became a mom to daughter Ava Phillippe in 2002. She told Drew Barrymore she was “terrified” about the major life change, explaining, “I didn’t know how to balance work and motherhood. You just do it, you know?”

“I was just like every other mom trying to figure it out—and dad out there, and partner, and grandparent who’s raising a child,” Reese remarked.

Nowadays, it sure looks like Reese has things figured out.

Paris Jackson Says Childhood Paparazzi Encounters Caused Her to Suffer From "Severe Paranoia"

  • Paris Jackson detailed how her public upbringing impacts her daily life in a new episode of Jada Pinkett Smith's Red Table Talk.

As a child, Paris Jackson wore masks when in the public with her pop star father Michael Jackson, but hiding her face did nothing to shield her from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.

Now 23 years old, Paris tells Red Table Talk‘s Willow Smith she believes she has “standard PTSD,” according to NBC News. She explains, “I experience auditory hallucinations sometimes with camera clicks and severe paranoia and have been going to therapy for a lot of things but that included.”

The model illustrates the way this impacts her daily life, saying, “I’ll hear a trash bag rustling and flinch in panic.”

Paris has taken back control of her life in some aspects, however, revealing she makes people sign a non-disclosure agreement before entering her home.

And though the singer likes her privacy, she’s open about her romantic relationships and sexuality. Paris admits her interest in both men and women caused tension between her and relatives, save for her brothers Michael Joseph “Prince” Jackson Jr. and Prince Michael “Blanket” Jackson II, who are a source of strength.

“They’ve always been super-supportive,” Paris shares, adding that older brother Prince joined his high school’s gay-straight alliance group in his efforts to better connect with her on the topic. “Not a lot of people can say they have siblings that support them like that.”

Paris previously spoke about her unconventional upbringing on No Filter with Naomi Campbell. She recalled crisscrossing the world with her father as he went on concert tours, noting the mixed emotions she feels when thinking about her childhood.

“It was difficult. A blessing [and] a privilege to be able to experience so much at a young age,” Paris remembered. “And my dad was really good about making sure we were cultured, making sure we were educated, and not just showing us, like, the glitz and glam, like, hotel-hopping five-star places. But it was also, like, we saw everything. We saw third-world countries and we saw, like, every part of the spectrum.”

And in 2012, Paris addressed her father’s decision to make her and her siblings wear masks in public. She told Oprah Winfrey she was “really confused” about the practice, but added, “I understand it now, why my dad would want my face to be covered. When we went out without him, we wouldn’t be recognized. We could have a normal childhood.”

Her full conversation with Willow on Red Table Talk streams on Wednesday, June 16 on Facebook Watch.
