Ryan Phillippe’s Son Deacon Is His Doppelgänger in New Photo with Mom Reese Witherspoon

Deacon Phillippe posed with his mom Reese Witherspoon on a recent outing, and people couldn’t help but notice how much he looked like his dad Ryan Phillippe.

Deacon Reese Phillippe is the spitting image of his dad, Ryan Phillippe, in Reese Witherspoon‘s new Instagram picture.

The Legally Blonde actress shared a photo of her and her son sitting side by side on June 30. Reese grinned in a blue-and-white checkered dress and straw hat, while Deacon wrapped his arm around his mom.

“Making sure we get some good photo options incase [sic] we ever need an album cover for the mother x son band I’m trying to convince @Deaconphillippe to start with me,” the 45-year-old star captioned the pic.

Reese and Ryan were both leads in the teen movie Cruel Intentions and married in 1999. Their daughter, Ava Phillippe, 21, was born that same year. They had Deacon in 2003, but four years later, the couple divorced.

Deacon, who is pursuing singing and modeling, walked his first fashion show for Prada a week prior to Reese’s post.

“As a teenager, you only know what you know in the world,” she continued. “You don’t know what it’s like to work in a foreign country or to be in medicine or science. I have friends in a lot of different fields, so I try to surround my kids with people who have incredible experiences in other industries. We can get really isolated here in Hollywood.”

Reese Witherspoon is weighing in on her daughter’s soaring romance. 

On Monday, June 21, the star’s 21-year-old daughter, Ava Phillippe, took to Instagram to share a touching pic of herself and boyfriend Owen Mahoney on vacation in Austin, Texas. The couple had apparently been hoping to see the bats fly out from under the city’s bridges, which is a famed tourist attraction, but alas, it wasn’t quite meant to be. 

“the bats were feeling shy…so here’s a pic of us instead,” Ava captioned the shot.

In the photo, she’s wearing a red polka-dotted outfit, while he’s sporting a faded denim button-down shirt. Ava and Owen both attend UC Berkeley and have been public with their relationship since 2019. 

One person who’s clearly a big fan of the pairing is Reese, who shares Ava and 17-year-old Deacon with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, and shares Tennessee, 8, with husband Jim Toth. 

“These two,” the 45-year-old Oscar winner commented, adding a heart-eyes emoji.

Reese Witherspoon is revealing how her role in 2014’s Wild impacted her mental health.

In a conversation with Tracee Ellis Ross for Interview magazine, the 45-year-old actress recalls taking on the challenge of portraying Cheryl Strayed in Wild, saying she was “so scared” about filming the project.

“I was having panic attacks for three weeks before I started,” she shares, explaining the “nudity, sexuality, and drug-use” were intimidating aspects. 

Another anxiety-inducing factor for Reese was “being alone on camera with no other actors.” As she explains, “I hadn’t ever been alone in scenes for days and days. There were probably 25 days of the shoot where I had no other actor opposite me. It was just me and a camera and a backpack.”

The Morning Show actress reveals she also found herself questioning, “Is this going to be so boring?” 

But with less than a month to go until filming, Reese had to combat her fears, so she turned to hypnosis. 

And though she could’ve walked away from the role, the Oscar winner said the movie was so important to her as a woman.

“Cheryl Strayed’s book was so beautiful and sacred to me because it spoke to me so deeply about how we as women have to save ourselves. There’s no mother or father coming to save us. There’s no spouse,” she shares. “I thought it was radical that at the end of the film, she ends up with no family, no money, no job, no partner, and she’s happy.”

Reese adds, “I don’t know if I’ll ever work that hard again, but it changed me on a cellular level.”

The mother of three has been increasingly open about her mental health, especially as the world entered the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. She previously shared how she’d “lay on the floor and cry,” because she’s simply “overwhelmed.”

And more recently she admitted to winging it when she first became a mom to daughter Ava Phillippe in 2002. She told Drew Barrymore she was “terrified” about the major life change, explaining, “I didn’t know how to balance work and motherhood. You just do it, you know?”

“I was just like every other mom trying to figure it out—and dad out there, and partner, and grandparent who’s raising a child,” Reese remarked.

Nowadays, it sure looks like Reese has things figured out.
