Putting the “ow” in Below Deck.

On Wednesday, June 30, Below Deck Mediterranean star Malia White took to Instagram to detail a rough scooter accident she suffered during a recent day off in Mallorca, Spain. The Bravo personality started off her health update by sharing pictures from her adventure around the Mediterranean island.

“BEFORE PHOTO: had an amazing day exploring the island of Mallorca with my crew mates by scooter,” she wrote alongside the series of photos, including one of her on the scooter. “But it didn’t end as nicely as it started….. #mallorca #spain #adventure #daysoff”

For her next post, Malia shared a selfie from her hospital bed and a close-up of her injuries. “AFTER: on Instagram we usually share the pretty stuff but this is the important stuff,” she added. “I’m sharing this to express the importance of always wearing a helmet. Mine quite literally saved my life.”

As she continued, Malia revealed that she spent Below Deck Mediterranean‘s June 28 premiere on Bravo “in a hospital bed” thanks to “a mean accident” on her scooter.

“I’ve been riding scooters my whole life, was familiar with the equipment, wasn’t drinking and was 10 minutes from my boat,” she further explained. “Accidents happen when you least expect them. Luckily, I was able to walk away with a few stitches, fractured elbow, broken toes, severe road rash and a very sore body. I don’t want to imagine what the case would have been without my helmet! I won’t hang up my scooter keys just yet… but I’m definitely aware of the importance of cruising safely!”

Before long, in the comments section of her post, Malia’s Below Deck peers wished her a quick recovery. Below Deck Sailing Yacht chief stewardess Daisy Kelliher wrote, “Hope you’re ok!” Bugsy Drake, who appeared on season five of Below Deck Med alongside Malia, commented, “Sending you love and a speedy recovery!!!” Fellow Below Deck Med alum Bobby Giancola expressed, “Omg woman! I’m so glad you’re ok!”

As E! News readers well know, Malia is currently the bosun on season six of Below Deck Med. And, from what the trailer teased, the seasoned yachtie has a rough season ahead of her. For those who may’ve missed it, the teaser featured Malia having a heated conversation with her mentor, Captain Sandy Yawn.

Specifically, after not filing an incident report, the popular bosun appeared to receive a talking to by the captain. Malia defended in the trailer, “I’m not a chief officer.”

“I don’t give a f–k,” the displeased captain snapped back. “You should’ve come to me that he was hurt.”

It’s never easy being the boss.

In an exclusive chat with E! News, Below Deck Mediterranean‘s Katie Flood, who is the season six chief stewardess, opened up about her interior crew on Lady Michelle, including the drama fans can expect from the new episodes. For those who may’ve missed it, the season six trailer teased plenty of push back from Katie’s team.

Specifically, we saw the chief stew facing off with one of her stewardesses, named Lexi Wilson. In the footage, Katie snapped, “Right now, I’m pissed off with you.”

Yet, as Lexi informed Katie in the trailer, she did not care. “I’m like, leaving,” she said before noting on the phone, “Hey, mom. I’m quitting this boat.”

Although Katie didn’t give too much away about the drama, she did acknowledge that, in the yachting industry, “s–t happens,” adding, “That’s why there’s a show about it.”

As she continued, the New Zealand yachtie reminded us that the job required people with “different personalities,” who have never met, to work together, noting, “It’s like, we’re still learning about each other, still figuring how to work together. In what world would that ever run completely smoothly?”

Katie said it was “impossible” to avoid any bumps in this job, describing the situation as “a navigational process.”

Thankfully, Katie did find an ally in fellow department head, Malia White. And it seems the chief stew and the returning bosun built a great friendship over the season as Katie revealed that she “would have not survived” without Malia.

“She is incredible, she is amazing at her job,” she said of her co-star. “And, you know, I think we worked really well together, which helped blend in the rest of the crew. There wasn’t really [adversity] between us and deck.”

The chief stew further praised Malia for her ability to wrangle the crew and to get them to work as a team. “I think together, we made that happen,” she continued. “And, you know, she saved my ass a lot of the time. You’ll see what I’m talking about. I could’ve not done the season without her.”

Later on, Katie made it clear that there is plenty of drama to expect during season six. Namely, she credited her upcoming “emotional moments” on TV to the pressures that come with being chief stew.

“I sure am not gonna enjoy watching myself cry on TV, I know my mom’s not gonna like that,” she elaborated. “I talk about it on the show, I do struggle with anxiety, and that was a really hard time for me, what I was going through at that particular time.”

While Katie said she isn’t looking forward to reliving those intense moments, she believes viewers “will be able to relate to” them.

    Rough seas ahead?

In an exclusive chat with E! News, Captain Sandy Yawn opened up about the new season of Below Deck Mediterranean, including her confrontation with bosun Malia White. For those who may’ve missed it, the season six trailer featured Malia having a heated conversation with her mentor.

Specifically, after not filing an incident report, the seasoned yachtie appeared to receive a talking to by Captain Sandy. Malia defended in the trailer, “I’m not a chief officer.”

“I don’t give a f–k,” the displeased captain snapped back. “You should’ve come to me that he was hurt.”

While the scene didn’t look promising for the captain and her bosun, Sandy assured us that she and Malia are totally cool now. “Oh, Malia and I are fine,” she told E! News. “We just have to wait and see what happens, but, you know, there are times, even though you’re leading people, you get pissed.”

Shedding light on the drama, the captain continued, “One of the things that really upset me is when people don’t take responsibility and they shrug it.”

Outside of this situation, Captain Sandy praised Malia for being solid at her job. “Malia is an awesome crew member,” she expressed. “She does her job. You know, she always pitches in, you see her washing the dishes. Like, she’s a team player. She’s a real yachtie.”

As for Malia’s captain goals? Sandy noted that the bosun has “a lot to learn still,” but is well on her way to earning more stripes, adding, “She’s learning and she’s doing the work.”

In regard to the rest of the crew, the captain praised her season six team for following all of the COVID-19 safety protocols while filming. According to Captain Sandy, they were able to pull off this new season thanks to production “creating a bubble.”

“One of the things I really loved is the crew actually followed those protocols,” she concluded, “because, you know, some people are very resistant in that. So, that was awesome.”

  • In an exclusive chat with E! News, Below Deck Mediterranean's Katie Flood discussed stepping into Hannah Ferrier's old role. See what she had to say.
  • Watch: What We’ve Learned About Yachting From “Below Deck”

Katie Flood is ready to make a splash.

In an exclusive chat with E! News, Below Deck Mediterranean‘s season six chief stewardess opened up about her new gig and addressed taking over for her popular predecessor, Hannah Ferrier. Heading into the new season, which premieres Monday, June 28 on Bravo, the New Zealand yachtie hoped that fans will give her a chance to show her leadership style.

“Being a chief stew, OK, we all know the job,” she started off. “But every one of us have a different way of doing it or bring different strengths to the table. So, I just think it will be refreshing for the viewers, maybe.”

As she continued, Katie acknowledged that some fans may not be “happy that Hannah’s not here,” as this is the first season without the Australian yachtie. Yet, Katie reminded us that the situation ultimately “worked out good” since Hannah’s “in a completely different stage of life now.”

For those who may’ve missed it, Hannah, who was the upstairs-downstairs show’s chief stewardess between 2016 and 2020, was fired by Captain Sandy Yawn during season five over undeclared Valium and a CBD pen.

After saying bon voyage to the show, Hannah revealed that she was pregnant with her first child. And, in October 2020, the former Below Deck Med star gave birth to a daughter, named Ava Grace Roberts.

While we’ll certainly miss Hannah on Below Deck Med, we’re excited to get to know more about Katie, who has worked in the industry for seven years. On joining the Bravo hit, Katie revealed, “This opportunity sort of fell in my lap at the right time, and all signs pointed towards me doing this. So, I just went with my gut and here we are.”

Yet, as the season six trailer already teased, emotions will run high in the new episodes. “You know, I’m not perfect,” Katie said on the drama to come. “I am a human. I do have emotions. Things do affect me. You know, there’s so much pressure in this role, and then it’s like, you add the lack of sleep, the demanding guests, the drinking, like, all this stuff. It sort of boils up, and that’s when you have these emotional moments.”

If we weren’t all aboard for season six before, we are now!
